January 27, 2016

Dear PWS Families,

This week our first graders had the great experience of watching the Marionettes from Tanglewood Productions.  This is an annual tradition at PWS that the students always enjoy.  Thank you to the PTG for sponsoring this event!

Isn’t New England weather wonderful. One day we have ice and sleet and two days later we have the PTG Principals’ Winter Read when it is 50 degrees. With the ever changing weather we understand that it is not always easy to know how to dress for school or recess. A reminder that outdoor recess will happen if the temperature is above 20, so do your best to dress appropriately.  Also, please make sure your children bring in shoes to wear during the school day. Snow boots are bulky and often students feet get overheated in them.  Thanks for the help with this.

Report Cards for the second quarter are now available. Report Cards are now issued through the Parent Portal of Powerschool. Accessing the report card in your portal account is very easy and directions can be found here. Please take a moment to review the report card with your child. We are excited about the progress they have made.

The 3rd grade Inventive Thinking Unit's culmination is quickly approaching on Monday, February 20th.  The 4th grade Invention Convention will be held on Tuesday, February 21.  ALL IDEAS MUST BE IN BY FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 3 FOR BOTH GRADES.  Please check out Mrs. Speaker's Website for details.  Information can be found under the "Inventive Thinking-Grade 3" tab.

Dear PWS Families,

While starting a week with a holiday and then mixing in a delayed opening always leads to an interesting outcome, we have had an otherwise great week here at PWS. On Wednesday Night, our fourth grade chorus put on a wonderful show for friends and families. A special thank you to Mrs. Curran for putting together this lovely show.

Yesterday, we had our annual Peter Woodbury School Spelling Bee. Fourteen students from our fourth grade classrooms participated. In the end Yash Veerkar from Mrs. Kane’s class won, correctly spelling legitimately. Poorvi Sanath from Mrs. Lombo’s class is the runner up. Yash will now represent PWS at the state Spelling Bee in Concord. Congratulations to winners and all the participants in this year’s Bee.

Bedford Community Hall of Fame
The Hall of Fame Committee, consisting of ten school personnel and community members, is seeking nominations for Bedford’s inaugural appointments to the newly formed Bedford Hall of Fame.
The mission of the Hall of Fame is to recognize and honor those residents who have attended the Bedford School District (including West High) who have made truly exceptional contributions to the school, community,  or society in general.
We are planning a formal recognition dinner for the induction of our inaugural class in the fall of 2017, on the evening before the Homecoming football game at the High School. Each inductee will also be recognized at the half-time of the Homecoming football game as well.  Inductees will be honored for their unique contributions, awarded a plaque recognizing their contributions, and have a permanent commemoration placed in the “Hall of Fame” located in the main hallway at the High School.
You can access the Hall of Fame nomination information and application on the schools and SAU websites under the “Community” tab.  There is also a button on the front page of the BHS website. There you will find more specific information about the process.  Nomination applications can be submitted online or in hard copy and sent care of Chip McGee Superintendent of Schools in Bedford. Applications must be completed in full and received by the end of May 2017 to be considered for this class.  Applications not chosen this year will be kept on file and automatically considered for subsequent classes along with all new applications.
We are excited to have this recognition program in place and look forward to reviewing the many applications we hope to receive.  Should you have questions please direction them to Bill Hagen at  hagenw@sau25.net or Mark Elmendorf at elmendorfm@sau25.net.

January 13, 2017

Dear PWS Families,
What a fantastic five day week we had.  On Monday, we were in a third grade classroom and they were creating model inventions.  The idea was to create an invention that helped solve a problem. The students came up with some great inventions including: an item that picks up toys, an item that adds steps to your fitbit, a food/water dispenser for a pet, and an organizer for pens, pencils and crayons.

We want to thank the many fourth grade students who submitted a drawing for our yearbook covers. The drawings were fantastic and the decision was not easy. However, congratulations go to Siddhant Jadav for designing our front cover and Navya Rai for designing the back cover. Congratulations to them and all the fourth graders who submitted a picture.

Last Night, we had the honor of attending a wonderful play performed by Mrs. Stallone’s second grade class. The students did a wonderful job in their many parts of the story The Mitten by Jan Brett. It was great to see the students perform and the many parents and family who came out in support of the performance.

Family Fun Night
Dear Families,
We hope you have marked your calendars for our Family Fun Night (FFN) which will be held February 15, 2017! Planning for our fun filled night is "STEAM-ing" along.  Our student-designed t-shirts have become a tradition!  The students love having an investment in the night and seeing their work worn by their peers and PWS families.  To help offset the cost of the t-shirts this year, we welcome the financial support from businesses/corporation affiliated with PWS families.  In turn, we would love to advertise your company's name on the back of the student designed shirts. Please click HERE to learn more.  Stayed tuned for more FFN info!!!
