PWS PrinciPal’s News
PWS Families,

We love to continue to share the experiences we have with our students. This week, while we were at lunch, we found ourselves with K Plus students. Without prompting, one of the K Plus students came up to us and asked if we wanted to see how he could pretend to cry. He then demonstrated this cry and then very proudly stated, “ This is how I get my mom to do things for me.” We were quite entertained and are sure this mom is very proud of his acting abilities.
We began this week with Third and Fourth graders participating in their Invention Convention. We were able to get around and judge the many wonderful inventions and Rube Goldberg contraptions. A special thank you to Mrs. Kara Speaker for putting together this event. In the end the winners were:

Grade 3
Rube Goldbergs
David Bergeron - Roll a Dice
Wilson Quick - The Water Dumper
Akshara Kilari - Raise a Flag

Challenge:
Cam Finnerty - Slow Stop Skis
Liam Shannon - Hip Hip Hooray

Inventions:
Jake LaCroix - Shower Signal
Aaria Ahdi - Smart Feet

Grade 4
Rube Goldbergs
Logan Kundert - Saving the Rat

Original Inventions
Mary Suozzo:  Healthy Desk Pack
Luc Caouette:  The Fridge Pumper
Colby Therrien:  Puppy Umbrella

Finally, as you know this week we celebrated PWS Spirit Week with students wearing their favorite sports team items, dressing up as adults, their wackiest attire, favorite characters, and  finally their most comfortable pajamas. Here are some of our favorite pictures from this week’s Spirit days and today’s Third and Fourth Grade combined TInker Day.

Have a great vacation,
Cheryl Daley (Principal)
Dan Mitchell (Assistant Principal)

The PTG and BeBOLD ARE EXCITED TO CO-SPONSOR A PRESENTATION FOR ALL PARENTS & GUARDIANS
Wednesday, March 28th from 7-8:15 pm at BHS Auditorium
“Understanding How to Parent So that Children Can Succeed:  Addressing Childhood Anxiety and its Potential Pathway towards Substance Abuse”
Special guest speaker Jessica Lahey veteran teacher, journalist, and author of The Gift of Failure: How the Best Parents Learn to Let Go So Their Children Can Succeed.
Jessica Lahey will provide insight on how to raise kids who are happy and healthy and less likely to turn to destructive coping strategies, including ways to prevent childhood addiction. Lahey will also share research on the most effective ways to parent and support the psycho-social and emotional needs of our children.  Additionally, she will outline risk factors, explain which positive interventions can overcome those risk factors, and offer parents and teachers actionable, useful tools for raising happy, resilient children who will be less likely to turn to unhealthy behaviors when faced with the increasingly toxic stress and anxiety they face at home, in school and in our society. This event is open to all parents/guardians.
The 45-minute presentation will be followed by a 30-minute question and answer session.

Bedford Early Education Program  (BEEP) is accepting registrations for the 2018-2019 School Year.  We have space available in many of our 3 and 4 year old classrooms.  Please contact Roberta Keane, BEEP Coordinator at (603) 627-1776 x23216 or keaner@sau25.net.

BEEP  is a regular early childhood program  providing the opportunity for typically developing three and four year old children and children identified as having special needs to learn and play together.  We believe active participation and concrete learning experiences make learning more meaningful for the children and best serve their development and learning.  All the children are provided a multi-sensory learning environment in which they utilize all senses in learning new concepts.  Language development and social skills are emphasized throughout the integrated curriculum.  Implementation of specialized intervention within natural situations occurs without disrupting the curriculum and educational routines of the classroom.

Staff:
Classrooms are staffed by certified educators with a background in early childhood and special education.  In addition, our staff includes a licensed speech and language pathologist, a speech assistant, licensed occupational therapist, occupational therapy assistant, licensed physical therapist, classroom assistants and a program coordinator.  Educational consultants are available as needed.  Throughout a BEEP day, each classroom has a teacher and assistant at all times, and other therapists and paraprofessionals may join the classroom periodically.
Programs:
·Classroom programs for 3 and 4 year olds are provided two, three, four, or five days a week for 2 ½ hours a day.
·The Intensive Needs program offers the opportunity for an individualized self-contained, or partially self-contained program..

Snow Day Lunch Info./Announcements
Some parents across the district have asked if there is a rule of thumb when determining the lunch menu on the day following a snow day.  There is no rule, as the menu for that day is dependent upon what was on the menu the day of the snow day, what prep the kitchen had to do, and what fresh produce the kitchen had ordered.  Therefore, our district’s Food Service Director (Emily Murphy) has decided to provide an announcement on the SAU’s website (www.sau25.net) in the District News box, which will detail, by school, what the hot lunch offering will be the day following the snow day.  This information will be available the day of the snow day.

PWS PrinciPal’s News
PWS Families,
The week before the week before vacation is always a fun and exciting week in an elementary school. Our third and fourth grade students are busily preparing their work for next week’s Inventive Thinking Showcases. Meanwhile, our second graders participated in experiments about temperature while our first graders and Kindergarteners celebrated the 100th Day of School.

Please be sure to check out the new theme of our welcome bulletin board when you come to visit us next. There are some great pictures celebrating the Olympics and our Family Fun Night. Thank you to our PTG volunteers who continue to make this board look wonderful. We certainly are having a Gold Medal Year.

Next week will be our annual spirit week. Even though Monday is President’s Day and many businesses are closed, we have school. Here is a list of the themes for each day next week:

Monday, 2/19- Sports Day-support a favorite team, or wear clothes from your own sports team
Tuesday, 2/20- Teacher/Student swap day-students dress like teachers and the teachers will dress like students
Wednesday, 2/21- Wacky Wednesday-fun clothes, crazy hair, mismatched socks...how will you be wacky?
Thursday, 2/22- Character Day-dress as a character from a favorite book or movie
Friday, 2/23-Pajama Day-come to school dressed in your comfortable clothes. Please remember to wear shoes, not slippers, and be prepared for outdoor recess

Have a great weekend,
Cheryl Daley (Principal)
Dan Mitchell (Assistant Principal)

A note about attendance
We have reached a place in the school year where absences are starting to mount.  A reminder that absences beyond 10 days require a note (i.e, medical, bereavement) in order for them to be considered excused.  District procedure is to send home a 10-day and 15-day absence letter to families.

PWS PrinciPal’s News
PWS Families,

Thank you to everyone that came out and made our annual Family Fun Night a huge success. It is a great event and so nice to see everyone enjoying a special night out. Congratulations to all of the winners of baskets and teacher prizes. I am sure the students are very much looking forward to experiencing the sliming and soaking of their principal and assistant principal! A special thank you to Mrs. Manning, the PWS Events Committee, our many parent volunteers, our high school volunteers and community sponsors for making this event possible. Together we were able to raise close to $7,000 to support and make PWS an even better school and community.

Your child may come home and talk about the bit of excitement we had today. We lost power to a small part of our building this morning. The SAU maintenance team and Eversource responded quickly and got us back to full power in no time. The kitchen wasn’t affected, so luckily it didn’t interrupt any lunches.

Have a great weekend,
Cheryl Daley (Principal)
Dan Mitchell (Assistant Principal)
