May 25, 2017

Dear PWS Families,

Hello, we had a fantastic four day week!  Today, our second graders went to Squam Lake while all the other students enjoyed indoor recess. There was a lot of chatter and excitement as they played and shared the recess games!  We know they are all looking forward to spending the long weekend with their families!
Due to the Bedford PTG’s support for the Artist in Residence program, we were pleased to host illustrator Janet Stevens this week.  She gave three incredible presentations to the kindergarten, first and second grade students. Janet Stevens has been writing and or illustrating books for over 30 years! It is always fantastic to have authentic experiences with aspiring authors and illustrators. We are thankful to Ms. Stevens and the PTG for making this experience possible.
Janet's titles include such favorites as Cook- a- Doodle-Doo, The Great Fuzz Frenzy, Help Me, Mr. Mutt and The Little Red Pen. Janet’s books have received numerous honors including, Time Magazine Best Books of the Year, ALA Notable books, Children’s Choice awards, Wanda Gag Book Best Read Aloud Award, New York Times Bestseller list and the Caldecott Honor for Tops and Bottoms.
Fourth Grade Drama Club treated Janet, kindergarten, first, and second grades to a production of The Little Red Pen.  She was so impressed by the student designed costumes and sets, as well as the great acting.
A special thanks to our teacher/mentors; Mrs. Norfolk, Mrs. Curran, Mrs. Ferenc, Mrs. Piantedosi, Mrs. Denon, and Mrs. Beltramo.

PWS Happenings
A Note from Mrs. Ewing
At this time of year, the students may spend a little more time outdoors. It would be a good idea for parents to apply sunscreen and/or bug repellent before the students arrive each day. We are not able to reapply during the school day.  Please remember to apply sun block as well.

Summer Skills
Many parents are looking for ways to keep their child's academic skills sharp over the summer. If you would like to do this, we recommend using the Summer Skills Sharpeners Book from Tri-C Publication. You should order your child's current grade level if you choose to order.
