Dear PWS Families,

We want to first let you know that one of our long time staff members, Jill Vitagliano (Kindergarten Paraprofessional), has accepted a secretary position at Riddle Brook School in Bedford.  We want to thank her for all her hard work and dedication to the PWS families.  We wish her happiness in her future.  We will be filling the position within a couple of weeks.

Our Halloween Celebration will be held Thursday, October 31, 2013.  The classroom parties will be held at various times during the day as indicated by the classroom teacher.  This year the Halloween Parade will take a different route.  The students will be walking around the back of the school and come back into the building through the front door (the students will not be walking around the school yard).  The best place for parents to view the parade will be at the back of the building between the wooden fence and the cones.  The parking lot will be closed starting at 1:00.  Please note that it is against school policy for toy guns, swords, or any other weapons to be brought to school.  Your cooperation in this matter is appreciated.

If you are still interested in a student directory we have about 12 copies left.  Please send $5.00 in with your child and have them come to the front office during school hours.

The third and fourth graders had a special visit this week from a previous PWS student, Emma Benson.  She is going to be running a theater camp during April vacation.  All the students came home with handouts Wednesday after her presentation.  If you are interested in learning more about this please click on the link below:

Finally, we have picked our costumes and are ready for our annual Halloween parade.   Wishing you all a wonderful fall weekend.

Hello PWS Families,

We hope that you are all enjoying the fall weather.  Halloween is just around the corner and the students are excited about the parade.  We have been asking them what we should dress up as.  Some ideas include: unicorns, bunnies, each other, penguins and puzzle pieces.  Our annual parade will be on Oct. 31 starting at 1:30.  We are going to be setting up the parade a little different this year.  More information will come in a future blog.

Our PWS gear is now up for viewing in our main lobby.  Items for display include a sweatshirt, pajama pants, lunch bag, and a few styles of t-shirts.  You can also go to the website PWS Wear and Gear

We want to congratulate 3rd and 4th graders for working so hard on the NECAP assessment. With the exception of a few make ups that will take place early next week, we are finished with this year's assessment.  A special thank you to the younger students for being such great supporters of our third and fourth graders.

Hello,
Happy Fall!  We wanted to update you on a couple of items.  First, we wanted to remind parents about videoing and picture taking at our school.  Technology is so far along that we all know pictures and videos can pop up on the internet with a click of a button.  We respect that parents have different thoughts on this. There are times when taking these videos and photos are fine and there are times when it may be prohibited based on school and district policies. The difference in these times is whether the event is considered a public event or a school event. A public event would be anything that anyone could come to. For example, chorus performances, Fairy festival, or after school events. Events such as field trips, or during the school day activities would be considered "in-school" and we ask that parents and families refrain from sharing any videos or photos taken out of respect for those parents and students who wish not be to photographed or videoed. Thank you for your understanding with this.

This week 3rd and 4th grade students worked really hard on the NECAP testing.  Kindergarten, first and second grade students did a great job as supporters of these grades. They  would go into the upper grades to share a pet rock, design the doors or do a cheer for the older students.  It is so endearing for all the students. These assessments will continue this upcoming week on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Happy Friday PWS Families,

We would like to first recognize Mrs. Gordon who has been instrumental in making The Tattle Tale for PWS a success.  Mrs. Gordon is the partnership coordinator who works hard to make The Tattle Tale cost free.  We really appreciate all her effort on this!

Thank you to all the families for the support with the PTG Meadow Farms Fundraiser.

As you may remember, a few weeks back we let you know that all mass calls from the school would display a 800 number that would be different from the school but allow you to call in and retrieve the message. This system is now up and running. Any voice messages sent using the system will display a caller id of 855-344-6323. Parents will be  able to dial back the 800 number and replay the message very easily.

The Bedford Fire Department's Annual Open House is Tuesday, October 8, 2013 from 5-8pm at the Bedford Fire Department, 55 Constitution Dr.  This is a great opportunity for families to spend an evening of fun and learning with the Bedford Firefighters.  There will be fire truck rides, demonstrations, food, and displays.

Today, the first and second graders attended an education session with members of the Bedford Fire Department in the Safety Trailer.  The Fire Fighters highlighted kitchen safety, living room safety and bedroom safety.  Students got to practice staying low to the ground when a room is smokey.  Please ask you child about this experience.

Yesterday, we had bus evacuations.  The students did an excellent job at exiting the bus quickly and quietly.  These drills are done twice a year, once in the fall and again spring.

Next week we will begin the NECAP state assessment on Tuesday for 3rd and 4th grade students.  Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest and eats a healthy breakfast.  We appreciate your help with this.  On Monday, the kindergarten, first, and second grade students will hold a NECAP Pep rally.  This is a school wide event where we come together as a community to help review the strategies that are helpful using when taking a test.  The younger students get so excited about cheering on the older students.  Last year, on the way out of the Pep rally, a couple of students said, "Mrs. Daley, I can not wait to take the NECAP."

Finally, in recognition of Veterans Day, Mrs. Beltramo is collecting photos of veterans for our photo gallery, American Heroes: Our Service Men and Women, that will be hung in the hallway.  Please send these pictures to beltramom@bedfordnhk12.net by Oct. 18th.  If you have a loved one who is or was a member of this elite group we ask that you please share a photo so we may include them. Please include your name, the student's name, teacher's name, and as much information about the veteran's service as you can provide. This gallery will be available to view after November 1. Any questions can be directed to Mrs. Beltramo (622-0431 ext. 4214).

Thank you for all of your continued support!
