April 21, 2017

Dear PWS Families,

These past two days have certainly been an exciting way to head off into vacation. Yesterday, we celebrated the end of our Jump Rope for Heart Drive with an All School Assembly. The Assembly featured the fourth grade jumpers, recognized the best jumpers, celebrated the top earners in each grade, and even included some brave faculty and staff jumpers. Through the drive Peter Woodbury School was able to raise and donate over $13,000 to the American Heart Association. Thank you all for your support with this.

Last night, many of you came out to celebrate all of the wonderful art work that the students have created over the year. It was a great event with an excellent turn out. Thank you for all coming out and being a part of this special evening. A very special thank you goes out to Mrs. Piantedosi, for not only working with the students to create these great pieces but for all the time and organization it takes to put on the art show. Thank you to all involved for making this year’s Art Show a success.

Finally, although this last day before vacation was a bit rainy and dreary, that didn’t stop the students from getting excited at our annual concert by The Spain Brothers. This performance of fun and interesting songs had the students dancing, clapping and singing along. Some of the students favorites were I Wish I Were a Fish and The Song About His Family. Ask your child to sing them, we are sure you will enjoy them as well.

April 14, 2017

Dear PWS Families,

What a great week we have had at PWS. It has been great seeing all the parents and families come in for our Spring conferences. There certainly has been a lot of energy in the building. The students are enjoying being able to get outside on a daily basis.

Now that the snow has melted it is time to start cleaning up and preparing our school yard and gardens. This year we are looking for pavers to add to an area of the yard. If you have any extra paver stones lying around that you would like to donate please let Mr. Mitchell know (mitchelld@sau25.net) and we can arrange to get them.

Finally, we have some exciting and special news to share with you. Since the beginning of this year, Penny Demos has been working with the Enable organization to acquire a prosthetic for one of our second graders. The Enable organization utilizes local resources and technologies to connect those in need with prosthetics. Through a collaboration of PWS, Academy of Science and Design, Enable, the Bedford Men’s Club, and lead engineer Bob Kennett, we are close to completing this wonderful feat. Here is a video that updates the incredible process and child/ family involved. We are so proud of Penny and Harun!

April 7, 2017

Dear PWS Families,

Thank you to everyone that made our Book Fair a huge success. This year the fair raised over $14,000 with over $1,000 of that being donations back to the classrooms. Thank you all for supporting this event, we raised a lot of money and have many happy children with new books.  A special thank you to Mindy Bator, Michael Yamauchi, and Christine Roberts for spearheading this amazing event.
Tonight is our annual Father/ Daughter Dance. We are very much looking forward to hosting the girls and their fathers for a fun night of fancy dresses, dancing, and cupcakes.
On Wednesday, April 5, each student was given a bracelet that says "I AM AMAZING!"  and were part of an All School Meeting by Acacia from Tiny Girl, Big Dream.  This presentation was about encouraging every student at Peter Woodbury to reach out to one another in friendship and bring positive change to the world.  The school received a Friendship Bench that will be put in the school yard.  Ask your children about Acacia and what they learned from her!

CONGRATULATIONS to our very own Mind Blowers who placed first at the Destination Imagination State Finals at Bedford High School last weekend.  The team took on the Engineering Challenge called In it Together.  They had to design, build and test multiple free-standing structures that work together; develop a strategy for placing structures to support as much weight as possible; develop and present a collaborative solution to a global issue and create, and present two Team Choice Elements that highlight the team's interests, skills, areas of strength and talents.
The team now has an opportunity to travel to the Global Finals in Knoxville, TN at the end of May.

Box Tops for Education (BTFE) Update
The numbers are in:  We have raised $2,960 for the 2016-2017 School Year, which is almost $700 over the 2015-2016 school year.  Thank you to the students, parents, teachers and friends who have continued to clip these pesky little pink rectangles!  We will soon be posting fun graphs and charts to the bulletin board (near the PWS office) so that you can see how the teachers and grades matchup in collection totals.  Although the BTFE Program’s year is closed, we ask for everyone’s support to continue clipping.  There will be an additional collection mid-May to ensure that we don’t lose money from expiring Box Tops.  Did you know that every month we have a chance to win free Box Top?  Visit www.BTFE.com and select ‘Earn Box Tops’ and then ‘Sweepstakes.’ Who knows?  Maybe we will win a Million Box Tops for PWS! You can also download the Box Tops Bonus App to win more Box Tops.
