Wednesday, June 17th

Hello PWS Families

Happy last day of school!  There was a lot of excitement in the air during the fourth grade clap out.  The fourth graders all waved to their parents as they went off to their McKevlie visit.  During move up day students were very happy to meet their new teacher and see the other children that are in their classroom.  It all went smoothly.

Destination Imagination says Thank You
The Sounds of Silence team from Ross A. Lurgio would like to thank the community for all their support during their recent fundraisers to help fund their trip to Knoxville, TN.  These 7 kids and 2 Team Managers are so appreciative and could not have make this journey without your help. DI will be back in the fall, so until then, have a wonderful summer everyone and find time to use your imagination and be creative!

We are asking for some assistance this summer in maintaining our gardens.  Our vegetables are donated to the Caregivers Association in Bedford.  If you are interested in helping with this please see the link below.

Dear PWS Families,

Today was another special day at PWS as we watched the Kindergarten students rehearse graduation. The students in the audience mouthed the words and swayed to the songs.  It was extremely endearing.  We are so proud to be a part of such a wonderful school community.

Drug and Alcohol Abuse Program
Superintendent McGee asked that we sent this email to all parents in the District.  It contains a fixed link to the program

Dear Parents,
I am emailing you today about a serious topic - drug and alcohol abuse.  Bedford Police Chief John Bryfonski and I recently recorded a program on this topic for BCTV. (FIXED LINK)  It was an opportunity for both of us to share our concerns about the impact that abuse can have (and is having) on the people in our community.
I am asking that you consider watching it.   It lasts 60 minutes and is designed for parents, not children.  Our goal is to promote more discussion of this important issue.
We have also identified a handout for parents.(LINK)  It has some helpful suggestions about how to start talking with your children about drug and alcohol abuse.  Of course, the decisions about if and when to have these conversations is ultimately up to individual parents.  With that in mind, I want to strongly encourage all parents to consider starting sooner rather than later.
Please let me know if you have any questions or feedback.
Sincerely,
Chip McGee

PWS School Sign
We hope that you all have seen our new PWS sign at the front of the building.  This was designed by our artist in residence, Mark Ragonese along with third grade students.  A special thank you to Mrs. Piantedosi the art teacher for helping this to happen.  This sign is posted on facebook and the PWS website.

Field Day
Wednesday was the PWS annual field day.  What a wonderful day filled with games, laughter and water.  Mr. Mitchell had his annual soaking by first grade students.  Student council also got an chance to pour a bucket of water over Mrs. Mitchell's head.

2015-2016 McKelvie Volunteer
We have the first request for Student Directory Volunteers. This directory is one of the best opportunities that parents  have to access the information for their children's classmates.  It was through the tireless efforts of a few of our new parents -- Colleen Gagne, Kristy Lamont and Barbara Chagnon -- that this product was again a success.  We'd like to thank not only these three, but also Dawne Altemus, who, although she no longer has a child at McKelvie, very willingly shared her time and talents to help put this Directory together.  Kristy, Barbara and Colleen are not sure if they will be able to give their time to get a directory together for 2015-2016 and they are seeking volunteers to organize over the summer to be working on it when school gets back into swing in the fall.  It is hoped we can find someone proficient in either Word or Excel as these two programs are key in getting this product together.  Both of these programs are used only for data manipulation, no math skills needed.  Please contact Barbara at bchagnon80@gmail.com if you're interested in helping out.  Thank you!!!
