Hello PWS Families,

Although it was a short week at PWS it was still a busy week!  Students were working hard to put in the work of a full week in only four days. This week we had visitors from Animal Encounters and the Audubon Society.

PTG Positions For Next Year 2015

The PTG is still looking to fill the following positions:
Vice President Publicity
Vice President Publicity
Publicity-News Writer/Photographer
WebMaster
Gift Card

4th Grade IA
The PWS IA team has enjoyed integrating a fourth grade unit across the disciplines.  In art, students learned about different paper glazing processes that ultimately became papers for a collage that inspired their own writings.  In library, students have practiced “bringing words off the page” as they recited a self-selected poem.  In PE, using one of the selected poems, students are working in groups to create movement maps and choreograph their poems.  Finally, using their music aptitude, they are creating their own instrument tracks in accompaniment to their choreography.  It has been a beautiful example of integration and teaching to the whole child.

Summer Skills Workbooks

As the end of the school year approaches many parents begin to ask, "What can I do to keep my child's skills sharp over the summer?"  We are once again offering a resource to help practice skills learned this year. Tri-C Publications publishes workbooks called Summer Skill Sharpeners for grades K-8, in mathematics and language arts.  These workbooks are good, quick ways to review what was learned throughout the school year.  Since these books are meant to reinforce skills learned during the school year, it is recommended that your child's current grade level be ordered.  If you wish to order any of these workbooks please complete the order form below and send in a check made out to Peter Woodbury School.  Each books costs $17.  All orders are due by Wednesday, May 27th.
If you'd like more information about the books, you can visit Tri-C Publications' website at www.summerskills.com.

Dear PWS Families,

It was another great week for the staff and students at PWS.  Garden club during recess is happening and students love being involved.  Watching children sing "This Land is Your Land" and working in the gardens is priceless.

GIRLS ON THE RUN IS HELPING CANINE COMMITMENT
This season's Girls on the Run team is doing their community service project to help Canine Commitment.  We are collecting donations of pet toys to bring down to the center.  A box will be in the front foyer of the school until May 29th for any donated items.  We will also be making dog treats and selling them before this year's spring chorus concert on May 20th.  All the money and toys collected will go to Canine Commitment.  Please help us out if you can.  Thanks - The GOTR Team.

BHS MARVELous Disney Day – Deadline Extended
On Saturday May 16th from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, Bedford High School’s Leadership Class will be offering a MARVELous Disney Day in their school library and courtyard.  This will be a morning of fun Marvel and Disney activities, which includes arts and crafts, fun games, short movies, stories and much more.  This will be a babysitting service and a fun opportunity for your child to get a real high school experience.  All proceeds will go to sponsor a disabled child to attend Bedford’s Camp Allen in the summer. For more information and registration go to Disney/Marvel.

The Bedford Rotary Race is taking place Saturday_morning and the start and finish for the race is at Bedford High School.  Therefore, in consultation with Bedford police, BHS has been given permission to have parents drop off their children at the school's service entrance at the back of the school (Chestnut Rd. off of 101).  They will have their students meet the children at the entrance to register and will also have students (in Disney costumes) at TD Bank (corner of Chestnut Rd. and 101) to direct the parents if they are unsure of where to go.  The service entrance is behind TD Bank at the top of the hill.  To avoid traffic they will also have the children picked up from this entrance too.
