Dear PWS Families,
This week the students had a extreme amount of energy!   When we visit classrooms students are talking to us about many things.  One 2nd grade girl was telling us about how boys are bad and she just tries to ignore them.  During math class, a first grade student was telling us that all he could think about was coloring a picture.  Some fourth grade students at dismissal were talking excitedly about the fact they did not have much homework!   We have even had to sit with some students and showed them how to deep breathe to calm their bodies down.  Our thought is that next week will be even more energetic at PWS!  We know there will be many holiday celebrations taking place in the classrooms,  we are looking forward to seeing many of you!

PWS Happenings
Lost and Found
We had a parent reach out to us to inquire about where the lost in found would go, hoping that some items could be donated to her school.  Well that sparked a quick clothing drive (gently used) for a school in the greater Manchester Area.  We will be collecting clothing up until Wed. Dec. 23rd at 10:00 am.  You are all so amazing we were just in the lobby and the bin is already filled!

PWS-BHS Collaboration
Mrs. Armstrong’s first grade class had the opportunity to collaborate with Mr. Pepper’s World Religion class from Bedford High School.  They worked together to create a digital book based around a tale that teaches a lesson.  The Monkey and the Turtle is just one example of these books.

Dear Families,
We hope you are all enjoying your holiday season.  We know that this is a busy time for all so please remember to stop and breathe.  The children are getting more and more excited for the upcoming vacation and holidays.  Thank you to all our students and families for another successful PWS Food Drive. We don’t have the exact totals but we were able to fill over four bins of food. We continue to be amazed by the generosity of all of you.

Dear Families,
We hope that you all had a wonderful and relaxing Thanksgiving last week.  In classrooms this week we have observed students writing letters, participating in the Hour of Code and doing silent cheers to celebrate all the hard work they have been doing!

On Monday morning, we had some excitement at the front of our school at PWS.  Tristan Kerr, a fourth grader,  won a ride to school in a fire truck!  Below is a picture of him, with his class (Mrs. Correia’s class) and firefighters.

Rewards Program Update
PWS is now participating in the Labels For Education program in addition to the Box Tops for Education program. The 'Labels' program is very similar to the Box Tops program in that we need your help to 'clip and save' for our schools:
·         The 'Labels' are typically UPC symbols, although on some products, are actually the entire product cap.
·         Products with 'Labels' are: BIC, Campbell Soup & Chili, Pace (caps), Pepperidge Farm, SpahettiOs, Swanson broths, and V8 drinks (caps) - refer to https://www.labelsforeducation.com/Earn-Points/Participating-Products for more details.
Please include any 'Labels' UPCs or caps with your Box Tops as you send them into school. Our next collection will be Box Tops and Labels on Friday, December  18.

School Board Meeting at PWS
This year, the Bedford School Board will be holding some of their meetings in our schools. This Monday’s meeting December 7thst will be held at Peter Woodbury School.  If you’d like to attend, please feel free to come by.  The meeting will begin at 7:00 PM in our library.

Dear Families,

It has been great to see so many families in the building for parent conferences.  The students seem proud of the work they are doing at school.

Student led conferences took place in fourth grade this week.  During these conferences, the students show their work and explain to their parents about their individual learning experience.  This is a powerful experience for students as they explain the learning that they have experienced.  We had the honor of sitting in on a couple of the conference.  A special thank you to students, Justin Perry and Mishka Allam and parents for letting us witness your conferences.

Today was our Kindergarten Thanksgiving Feast. Thank you to all the parents who donated and helped make this a special event for our Kindergarteners.

A note from Ted Luszey
"With all your help Operation Care for Troops shipped 4751 Holiday stockings to our men and women serving our country.  Even as we were packing these goodies and cards for our Troops we were getting new requests to send packages.  We met these challenges and we exceeded our goal by more than 100% and we fulfilled all requests received!  Thanks to each of you and your hard work."

Thanks to everyone for your help and support!!!

Dear PWS Families,

A special congratulations goes out this week to Mrs. Jess Ferenc who was named the NHAHPERD Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year this week. Great Job Mrs. Ferenc, we are so proud of you!!

We had a Veterans Day Tribute on Tuesday afternoon.  We want to thank all the PWS community for the donations.  As a school handed off letter the students wrote to the veterans, had the color guard share what the thirteen folds in the flag represented, said the pledge of allegiance and sang patriotic songs.  We had the honor of having a guest speakers, Mr. Beecher (active duty member) who spoke to the students about how much their donations and letters would mean to the veterans.  It was a heart warming event.

Parent conferences are in full swing, it has been great to see so many of you coming in to meet with teachers and discuss your child's progress. It is hard to believe that we are already a quarter of the way through the school year.

Substance Abuse Epidemic
In response to the threat posed to our community by the substance abuse epidemic, the Bedford Police Department in conjunction with the Bedford School District will host a community-wide meeting on Tuesday, November 10th from 7P to 10P at the Manchester Christian Church, 56 Old Bedford Road, Bedford (across from Memorial School).  We want to thank Manchester Christian Church for graciously donating the use of their facility for this important endeavor.

The goal is to involve individuals and groups from throughout our community.  The focus is to first de-stigmatize this issue to encourage parent(s), student(s), loved one(s), friends and family to seek assistance for not only those suffering from substance abuse but also for guidance in education and treatment (agenda).  To accomplish this, we plan to have some gallant members of the community discuss their struggle with abuse in their families followed by a panel discussion and, most importantly, community engagement that we hope will lead to an action plan.

Anyone seeking more information about the meeting may contact the Police Department or the Superintendent's Office in person, by telephone or email.  On behalf of the Bedford Police Department and the Bedford School District, we want to thank you all for your assistance and whatever level of participation you are able to offer.
