Hello PWS Families,

The students were all very excited about being able to go outside this week!  When we announce outside recess over the intercom you can hear the screams in the air.  We are however, not letting the students on the big snow pile because of safety.  It has been great for them to get out their energy!

A couple of cute stories from the students this week:  One student stopped me in the hall and said, "Mrs. Daley do you sleep here?"  I explained to them that I do have a home.  Another student was telling me about seeing a deer on the way to school.  I asked if it was a Doe, Buck or Fawn? They looked at me and stated, "It was a teenager."  Our fourth graders are beginning to talk about moving to McKelvie.  I was asking a student today if they are excited and their response was, "Yes, because I get to sleep in!"

We want to extend a special congratulations to our Invention Convention Winners:

Vanessa Chen - Extrordi Walker - Sustainability Award

Maxine Morse - Loom-Tastic Elastic Stand - Most Marketable Award - Grade 3

Madison Papik - Cleaning Critters - Environmental Award - Grade 3

Kayla Stoll - Give a a Dog Food and Water - Rube Goldburg - Most Complex - Grade 3

Ginny Fitzgerald - Hitting All the Notes - Most Original - Grade 3

Quinn Hinsley & Owen Trachemontagne - Ball Throw - Rube Goldburg - Most Original - Grade 4

Congratulations also to Drew Dickson, Camran Rudduck, Cameron Wilding and Camden Wood for participating and representing PWS.

Our Family Fun Night is coming up April 10th.  The two sessions are from 4-5:30 and 6-7:30.  We are going to continue to have pizza, ice cream floats, teacher raffles and prize baskets.  A couple changes include a book walk, iPads and the book fair.  This is a wonderful time for families and PWS faculty to enjoy spending time together.  Thanks for being a part of this.

Have a great weekend,

Hello PWS Families,

Happy Spring!  The last few days the students have been very excited about the warm weather outside.  Please remember to continue to send snow pants and boots because the school yard is slushy.

A couple cute student stories
One student in the nurse's office asked, "How do you catch heartburn?"
One of the first graders did not know what a VCR was.
We were in Kindergarten when a girl announced, "Frozen has come out on Blue Ray and it is $14.95 at Toys R Us!"
We have been eating lunch in the cafeteria this week and the topics of conversation are the hot lunch, happy face french fries, and how many jumps (jump roping) they have made in PE.

Important Book Fair Information
The theme this year is Book Fair Fiesta
The fair runs Monday 4/7 - Thursday 4/10 which is also Family Fun Night
The fair hours will be:
Monday 8am - 3:30pm
Tuesday 8am - 6pm
Wednesday 8am - 3:30pm
Thursday 8am - 7:30pm (Family Fun Night!)

Students will all have an opportunity to preview the book fair during the week with their class and create a "wish list" of books they like.  Parents are welcome any time during fair hours to come and shop for great books.

There will also be a "classroom wish list" for each teacher on display at the fair.  If a parent wants to purchase and donate a book in their child's name to a teacher they can do so at the fair.

We will have the program "All-For-Books" again this year.  For every dollar donated at the PWS Book Fair, Scholastic will donate a book to a child in need and the monies raised will be used to purchase more books for PWS classrooms.  Each child who donates to the All-For-Books will get a fiesta tattoo and a chance to win a book.

Lastly, if we exceed our sales from last year, Mr. Mitchell has agreed to shave his beard in front of the entire school! For this to happen, our goal this year is $14,500.

Assistant Superintendent Search
Some of our students got to meet with Bob Jozokos, one of the Assistant Superintendent finalists.   They had great questions.  Things they asked were, "Who was your favorite teacher and why?", "Why do you want this job?', "Do you think you can take care of six Bedford schools?, "Do you think recess is important or is it not?" and "Are you sure you will have time for fun?"

We were so proud of our staff and students today during Mr. Jozokos' visit.  The warm, welcoming learning atmosphere of Peter Woodbury was really showcased.  A special thank you to you parents for sharing your children with us and supporting our school.

Have a great weekend,

Hello PWS Families,

We are so excited to announce our mascot's new name......The new Peter Woodbury School penguin mascot's name is WADDLES!  I want to thank all the PWS staff that made this voting process such a huge success.  Students were talking about voting in the hallways, at lunch and on the school yard.  We had 283 students vote from PWS.  Thank you to all the parents for helping this happen.  It is never too early to start teaching students the importance of voting.
