PWS PrinciPal’s News
We are a community that inspires and develops, engaged, successful learners every chance, every day.
August 31, 2018

PWS Families,
It has been a fabulous first week of school!  A couple of days were extra hot but we all worked together to stay cool.  We would like to tell you about what we have been learning about this week.
PWS follows the Responsive Classroom philosophy which empowers educators to create a safe, joyful, and engaging learning community where all students have a sense of belonging and feel significant.  One of the main focuses of this is interactive modeling. This means during the first week of school we actually model for the students how to walk in hallways, eat in dining room (we call it that to encourage respectful behavior),  use the school yard and follow classroom procedures. We have found when we put this time up front the students have a more successful school year.
We want to encourage PWS families to contact us if you have any questions or concerns about school happenings or procedures.
Cheryl Daley (Principal)
Dan Mitchell (Assistant Principal)

Getting to and From School
AM Drop-Off
When transporting your child to Peter Woodbury School between 7:30 AM and 7:50 AM, you are asked to drop-off in the back parking lot of the school.  A duty teacher is available to supervise children at the drop off area beginning at 7:30 AM. The academic day begins at 8:00 AM. Parents, if you arrive after 8:00 AM you must, park in the front lot, accompany your child to the office, and sign a clipboard noting his/her tardiness.
Parking
Visitor/ Parent parking is available in the front parking lot. The spaces facing the building and Back River Rd. are designated for parent parking. There are an additional four spaces by the side of the building that are designated for short term visitor parking. We ask that these spots be used for mid day pick-up, drop-off, or any business generally lasting under fifteen minutes. It is important that all signs pertaining to traffic flow be observed and followed in order to maintain a safe space for both car and pedestrian traffic.
Riding the Bus
Information concerning bus transportation and procedures is available in the District’s Transportation Handbook on the District’s Website at www.sau25.net>Departments> Transportation.  The handbook includes information on bus routes and stops, no school procedures, rules for safe transportation, and student conduct/discipline procedures. It is vital that parents, students, bus drivers, and District staff work together to maintain the safety of our buses. Please review the bus rules with your child. Safety is our first priority.  For any further questions or concerns, please contact the transportation coordinator at 472-3755 X 1234.
Parent Pick Up
If you are picking up your child at the end of the school day, we ask that you enter through the gym doors. They have yellow signs that state "Parent Pick Up". Once inside we ask that you fill out a pick up slip, for parents who will be picking up regularly, you can have a permanent pass created (see below). For parents picking up from the New Morning after school program, we ask that you enter through the gym doors, if the children are not there, please proceed outside where they most likely are. New Morning Schools runs this program, so the school office will not be able to dismiss your child at this point.
Parent Pick Up Slips
If you, or someone you know, will be picking up your child at Parent Pick Up on a regular basis and would like a permanent Pick Up Slip, please fill out the link below. We are asking that you complete the form by Friday, September 7. We will get these slips to you as soon as possible.
Info Snap Completion
Parents should have received an email in early August asking for you to complete the Info Snap Information process. Another email was sent this week to those parents who had not yet completed this process. We ask that you take a moment to complete this information prior to the start of school. If you did not receive this email or are having an issue with the process, please let the main office know.

Sand Toys Needed
This summer our parking lot got redone, our school yard is looking beautiful, and our sandbox is filled with new sand. The only thing that is missing is some sand toys. While there are some, we are always looking for more. So if you have some sand toys at home that aren't getting the love they used to, please consider sending them to us. They are sure to get the love and attention that they deserve.
Lunch Tray Update
For the 2018-2019 school year, the Bedford Food Service Department planned to purchase compostable lunch trays per the approved petition warrant article. In performing comprehensive research into companies that provide these trays, the Food Service Department, in collaboration with the NHDES, located a new and upcoming company, Grow Plastics, to provide the new lunch trays. After much development in creating a partnership with Grow Plastics and our current paper supplier Central Paper, it has been determined that the new compostable lunch trays will not be available at the start of the 2018-19 school year. However, Grow Plastics has informed the Food Service Department that the lunch trays will be available sometime this fall, and at the very latest January 2019. The Food Service Department continues to work diligently with Grow Plastics and Central Paper on our new and exciting partnership.
