PWS PrinciPal’s News
PWS Families,
The Book Fair is set up and the excitement in the building is growing. We love seeing the
pictures of the pets that are coming in. We are sure that this year’s Book Fair will be the best
one yet. Thank you to all the PTG volunteers, led by Kerri Sullivan, who have worked
tirelessly over the past few days to get this event up and running.
We want to thank the parents for walking students into the school after 7:50 am.  This
definitely helps with the safety of students and parents in the front parking lot.   Again,
safety is our most important priority.
We attended Jessica Lahey’s talk on Wednesday night.  She talked about the importance of
talking to children about their effort as opposed to test and academic scores.  Since that
discussion we have focused our messages to students to be more like “Wow, you are really
putting great effort into that!” and “It is important to always do the best you can!” If you
were unable to attend this presentation we encourage you to go to her website and look
through the many resource there. www.jessicalahey.com

Have a great weekend,
Cheryl Daley (Principal)

2018-19 School Calendar
The School Board has approved the 2018-19 School Calendar. Please note that there is a
substantial change for 2018-19. The district will shift from tracking days to tracking hours. As
a result, the last day of school for 2018-19 will be no later than June 13 and could be as early
as June 6. The first five snow days, if needed, will be made up by students at the end of the
year. Any snow days beyond five days will not need to be made up by students. This should
bring some more predictability to the end of the year for families.

Screenagers - Wednesday April 4 at 6 PM
In case you missed it or want to bring your spouse or friend, there will be another viewing of
Screenagers. It is on Wednesday April 4th at 6 PM at St Elizabeth’s in the Gym. The McKelvie
guidance team will be hosting this event.

School Start Time
Hopefully winter is behind us and we can get back to a consistent schedule without
unexpected snow days and delays. As we move towards more normalcy we want to remind
you that the school start time is 8:00 AM. Students must be in their class at 8:00 AM or they
will be marked as tardy.

The number of tardy students has started to increase so we want to take this opportunity to
remind everyone of the importance of students starting on time. The climate of the classroom
is set at the beginning of the day and it is important for all students to experience the morning
meetings and other routines teachers have in place to transition from home to school. Thank
you for your assistance with this.

Safety Updates
Thank you to all the parents that follow the morning safety procedures by parking their cars
and walking their students into the school. In saying that, several parents have expressed
concerns about morning traffic in the front of the school.  Please remember that all students
should be dropped off at the back of the building between 7:30 am and 7:50 am. If you arrive
after this time, and the flag is up, then pull to the front of the building, park your car, and walk
your child(ren) in.  It is not safe for students to be dropped off in the parking lot, or the lanes
with coming and going traffic. We really appreciate your assistance with this.

Students sometimes forget their lunch, snow gear, sneakers, etc. Since you are such great
parents you sometimes come and drop off your child's items.  We will now have our
receptionist, Mrs. Assetta, take the items and make sure they get to your child. Instructional
time is very precious and we want to protect this.  Thanks again for all your support.

PWS PrinciPal’s News
PWS Families,
We have had a wonderful five day school week. Anyone remember the last time that
has happened? By today everyone seemed a little more tired, as if they have forgotten
what a five day week feels like. Regardless, the learning continued, the work progressed,
and the energy was infectious. Some of our third grade classrooms were working on
persuasive writing pieces. One of our favorites was a piece trying to persuade us to provide
students with personal days. After all, aren’t adults afforded personal days in their jobs?
Last weekend many of our students participated in the Destination Imagination regional
tournament held at Goffstown High School. We are excited to say two of our teams placed
high enough to move on to the DI State Tournament held on April 7th at Bedford High School.
Congratulations to Team Emoji and The Pioneers of Treasure.
Speaking of DI, a special congratulations goes out to PWS’s own Aaria Ahdi whose pin
design received more than 10,000 votes from 14 different countries. Aaria’s design will be
made into a pin that will be available at the Destination Imagination Global Tournament. Here
is her winning design:

Finally, best of luck to our third and fourth grade students who are participating in the
Regional Invention Convention this Sunday at Southern New Hampshire University. We know
you will do great!

Have a great weekend,
Cheryl Daley (Principal)
Dan Mitchell (Assistant Principal)

Finally, this Winter, at Parent Pick Up, parents begin coming into the gym and lining up
along the walls. We like this idea and would like to continue with this format. Also, we will now
have the custodian on duty stay in parent pick until the students and duty teachers arrive. This
will ensure that there is a staff presence at all times during this process.

Lahey will also share research on the most effective ways to parent and support the
psycho-social and emotional needs of our children.  Additionally, she will outline risk factors,
