Peter Woodbury School- A Place Where People Care!
January 31, 2020
Dear PWS Families,
What a great week.  We have spent time with students during snack time.  They love to share about their lives. They talked about their families and what they do over the weekends.  Some older students shared their favorite subjects and we shared childhood stories about our times in school . They asked us our ages and we were happy to share.  After that they shared their parents ages as well. Thank you so much for sharing your children with us. Each and every one of them is special.
We have been asked by our transportation and bus company to share this important reminder with all of you. If your child misses the bus, please do not bring your child to a later stop and attempt to get them on the bus at that point. This can create dangerous situations with extra cars and children attempting to get on the bus from a location that the driver is unaware of. Rather, please just bring them directly to the school and utilize the parent drop off area. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in creating a safe environment for all of your children.
Have a Great Weekend,
Cheryl Daley, Principal
Dan Mitchell, Assistant Principal

Global Play Day
On Wednesday, February 5th, our school will be participating in Global School Play Day 2020 (GSPD.) GSPD has been promoted by Psychology Today and is being celebrated at schools around the world. You can learn more about the benefits of unstructured play by visiting the official GSPD website: www.globalschoolplayday.com.  We are inviting all of our students to bring in things to play with on this very special day. Here are some examples of things your child may bring in (be sure your child’s name is clearly marked on all items):
Non-Violent Toys (no weapons)
Legos, blocks, cardboard boxes, etc.
Dress-Up
Puppets
Stuffed Animals
Board Games
Puzzles
Sports equipment
*no electronic devices*
Though our play day will be unstructured, it will still be supervised by teachers. It is our hope that this one day of play will inspire families to plan for more unstructured play time during non-school hours.

Dear PWS Families,
Somehow a 60 degree Monday turned to a 10 degree Friday, throw a little snow in the middle and I guess that's just a typical January in New Hampshire. This week was a good reminder that the weather can change quite dramatically, even in one day. Please make sure your child comes prepared for whatever Mother Nature may throw at us.
We are getting excited for next week's PTG Principals' Winter Read and for Family Fun Night in a few weeks. Please be sure to read below for more information about both of these fun night events.
Today, we held our National Geographic Geography Bee for fourth graders. Representatives of each class faced tough questions about American and international geography. Congratulations to all that participated and made it to today's round. When it was all said and done, Sumedh Godavarthy from Mrs. Marshall's class was crowned the 2020 Peter Woodbury School Geography Bee Champion. Congratulations Sumedh and to the runner up, Caroline Space. You all make us so proud! Thank you Mrs. Speaker for coordinating this event.

Dear PWS Families,
The first full week of the new year is finally in the books. It was great to see how productive all the students were with five days to work with. We know that the students don't always enjoy indoor recess, but we have to admit it is usually very entertaining for us. This week we were amazed as two first graders debated the proper shoe tying technique and fourth grade students ran self made experiments with their snow gear.
We are looking forward to our upcoming Family Fun Night. This year it will take place on February 6. Be sure to keep an eye out for information coming home soon.
This past Wednesday, our fourth grade chorus and Strings Club dazzled us with their beautiful performance. It was incredible how great they sounded after only 11 practices. Congratulations to Mrs. Curran and all the performers.
Finally, you may hear your child talk about doing rechargers in the classroom. Rechargers are quick physical activities that all students can do to address energy, alertness, and sensory needs. Here is a short video that demonstrates a few we are focusing on this month. Recharger Video
