Dear PWS Families,
Our week was amazing!  We began it with a school wide breakout ending in the sliming of Mrs. Daley! Watch the 5 minute video to see what it was all about!

Dear PWS Families,

A message from Michele Leyden, our school’s Reading Specialist/Title 1 Supervisor:
If you received a letter stating that your child qualified for the Summer Title I Math Clinic, please remember to return the form to me as soon as possible!  We are so excited to provide this clinic for the first time this year.  Qualified students will benefit from a review of skills and concepts that were introduced during their third grade school year.  If you happened to have misplaced your permission slip, please notify your child’s classroom teacher and a new one will be sent home.

4th Grade Poetry Presentations
As an integrated unit for the past four weeks, 4th grade students collaborated in Art, Music, Library, and Physical Education to bring the words of poetry off the page. Each group selected a poem to be presented through various art forms. The final presentations included murals, creative movement, and atmospheric sound recordings all based on their poem. The 4th grade classes had the privilege of sharing their work with their peers during an hour long collaborative performance on Thursday. The students and IA teachers did an amazing job bringing poetry to life through a variety of expressions!

Four Way Stops on County Road to Continue
The intersections at Nashua Road and County Road in front of Bedford High School and
at Liberty Hill Road and County Road in front of McKelvie School will remain 4-way stop intersections through the end of the school year.  On May 25, Bedford Police Department
met with the school district, the Department of Public Works and our engineering consultant
and decided to extend the temporary change.  More information can be found at the Bedford Police Department website.

Tree Clearing and Other Summer Construction Projects
The Bedford School District completes significant maintenance projects every summer.   McKelvie is having an older section of roof replaced and getting an upgrade to two student bathrooms in need of replacement.  At Peter Woodbury, the parking lot is being replaced and traffic flow is being reconfigured.  You may notice this project in late June or early July when the trees in front of Peter Woodbury are removed to make way for the expanded parking lot.

Dear PWS Families,
We had another fantastic week at PWS!  The fourth grade Chorus performed on Wednesday evening for parents and Thursday afternoon for the students and staff.  They are such a wonderful group of students and along with our wonderful music teacher, Mrs. Curran, it was a touching performance. Fourth grade had a visit from the McKelvie band and chorus on Wednesday afternoon.  The students left the presentation excitedly talking about chorus or which instrument they should play in band.

Breakout EDU
On Monday, the school will be participating in a Breakout EDU activity starting at 1:00.  Maybe your child has already come home sharing how he/she "broke out", as many classrooms have already participated in one with Mrs. Speaker and Mrs. Cassamassino. A Breakout EDU session allows the students to engage in an activity that combines group work, collaborative thinking, problem solving in multiple curriculum areas. The students are asked to solve a series of problems to open locks to get additional clues to solve a final puzzle.  This will culminate with Sam Trent and Kaitlyn Daley, our Family Fun Night Winners,  getting to slime Mrs. Daley.  We will make sure that short clips are posted on Facebook, Instagram, and our website.

Dear PWS Families,

Happy Grandparent/Senior Day!  We had a nice visit with our grandparents/seniors filled with learning, happiness and fun.  Our visitors started out in the dining room with a delicious breakfast served by our food service staff.  Then, the grandparents/seniors got to visit our classrooms and participate in learning with their grandchild. Finally, our fourth grade chorus performed. This is one of the best days at PWS.  A special thank you to Samantha Farrow, Jenny Caouette and all of today’s volunteers for their dedication and hard work into making this event so special!

Principal Surveys
Surveys, regarding Mrs. Daley, were sent home with students this week. They are due back this Wednesday, May 18th. Your feedback is greatly appreciated and will impact the overall experience at Peter Woodbury School.

Bus Services
Our transportation provider, STA, is struggling to find enough qualified drivers. When we have new or substitute drivers, a bus route might be slower than normal.  Also, field trips and athletic events may be impacted if drivers are not available. Please be patient with the wonderful bus drivers we do have.  They are doing their best!
Important Traffic Note
We want to make sure our whole community is aware of a temporary traffic change. This important announcement is from the Bedford Police Department:  Starting Monday, May 16th, and continuing through Friday, May 27th, the intersection at Nashua Road and County Road in front of Bedford High School will become a temporary 4-way stop intersection. In addition, on those same dates, the intersection of Liberty Hill Road and County Road in front of McKelvie School will also become a temporary 4-way stop intersection.  The Bedford Highway Safety Committee has been studying both of these intersections after hearing from you – the community – regarding traffic delays and crashes at both of these intersections.  As a result, the Highway Safety Committee recommended engineering studies of both intersections to explore solutions to both congestion and crashes.  Part of the plan to improve both intersections includes a study of solutions, including 4-way stops.~ As you know, both intersections are currently 2-way stops.  For that two week period, temporary 4-way stop signs and traffic controls will be placed at both of these intersections.  Please review the rules of the road for 4-way stop intersections.  If you have a youth operator in your household that drives to school or frequently transits either of these intersections, please take a few moments to discuss the rules of road when approaching and driving through a 4-way stop intersection.  First and most important – all traffic must come to a complete stop.  This includes traffic that is in a designated right turn only lane which must come to a complete stop before proceeding through the intersection.  Second, the person in the intersection or whoever arrives first at an empty intersection has the right-of-way.  If two or more vehicles arrive at the same time, the vehicle on the right always has the right-of-way.  To learn more about the rules of the road at 4-way stop intersections, go to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website at www.nhtsa.gov and search for right of way at intersections.I am grateful to the town officials for their work to improve these intersections.  Please drive cautiously as we all adjust to the new pattern.Hall of Fame

Dear PWS Families,

It has been a wonderful week back. We hope you all had an enjoyable vacation. It was great to have the kids back with us. We want to say a special thank you to all of the parents and PTG members who went out of their way to make this a fantastic Teacher Appreciation Week. Each day brought more and more wonderful events and surprises. Thank you all to the students who truly made it a memorable week.

This coming Friday is our Annual Grandparents Day. We are expecting over 300 guests to join us that morning. As you can imagine this takes a large amount of planning, preparation, and work the day off. We are in need of volunteers for this event. If you are able to lend any time at all please email Samantha Farrow or Jenny Caouette. We look forward to another great event.

Finally, we wish all of the mothers in the Peter Woodbury School community a very happy Mother’s Day.

Principal Survey
A parent survey regarding Mrs. Daley will be sent home with students on Monday. Please look for it and take the time to fill it in and return it to school. Your feedback is always helpful in continuing to make Peter Woodbury a great school. Thank you in advance for taking the time to do this.
