Dear PWS Families,
We are hoping that this short week will provide everyone a chance to slow down, breathe, enjoy some (hopefully) nice weather, and relax. Everyone has been working so hard during this remote learning time and we couldn't be prouder of how our students, teachers, staff, parents, and families have responded during this unknown time.
As we spend more time together and options are limited, it may be harder and harder to stay regulated. Please click on the link below for a helpful video from Leah Kuypers, the creator of the Zones of Regulation.
Finally, we know that there are many questions out there regarding the end of school year. We are working with district, local, and state agencies  and hope to be able to give you information shortly on everything from Kindergarten Graduation and Fourth Grade Clapout to how to return your Chromebook and get your child's belongings. We are working hard to figure this out and will let you know as soon as possible. Once again your patience and understanding in notices and appreciated.

Remote Learning Plan
Understanding that we cannot replicate the same education that would have happened if there had not been a Covid-19 pandemic, we are making an adjustment to our weekly schedule.   As a school, we are constantly looking for the best ways to support all students. We believe that utilizing a model that lends itself to greater flexibility will be beneficial for our school community.  Starting next week we will dedicate Wednesday to support the personalization of learning. Please note, this is not a day off for students as they are expected to participate in their learning. Instead of receiving direct whole-class instruction, Wednesday is a day that may include targeted instructional opportunities and/or allow for more student choice and enrichment. We are hopeful that this change to the remote learning schedule will assist in giving students a little less screen time and a little more choice in their learning.  Stay safe and be healthy!
Playgrounds Closed
In an attempt to prevent the spread of COVID-19, all district playgrounds and school yards are closed at this time. While this decision pains us greatly, we hope that with everyone's cooperation we can all be back to playing and enjoying our magnificent school yard as soon as possible.

Dear PWS Families,
A reminder that next week is a short week. Teachers will be providing lessons on Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday will continue to be a Personalized Learning Day, and Thursday and Friday we will all take off as a mini vacation to rest, unplug, and take a break. We hope these days are helpful and beneficial for all of you.
To celebrate National Library Week, Mrs. Baldi will be running a raffle through her blog. More information can be found below. Fill out the form below by Sunday, May 3rd and she'll randomly choose one student to win a Ladybug Picture Book from among the 2019 nominees. Best of luck!
If you are looking for something fun and kind to do with your days off next week or with the remainder of remote learning we want to provide you this idea. Please consider completing this Kindness BINGO board with your family. As always, please send pictures. We love feeling connected in anyway we can.
Over the weekend, the technology department will be pushing out some much needed updates to the district Chromebooks. You will likely not notice any changes or issues. In order for the Chromebook to take advantage of the updates the students may need to login and logout of their Chromebook at some point over the weekend. Thanks for your understanding.
We know that these are very trying times, and Remote Learning is not easy!  If your family is struggling with it above and beyond what is expected (for any reason—personal or academic), please reach out to us so that we may connect you with resources and assist you in anyway we can.  We are here to help!
We miss you all, please enjoy the few days off next week to refresh and recharge,

Dear PWS Families,
We write to you today with a heavy heart. While we somewhat expected the news, to hear that we were not returning for the remainder of the year was hard to hear. We know that this news must not have been easy to hear at your homes as well. This is not how any of us envisioned the end of the year going. However, we are so proud of how you have all handled it. The best moments of our week are when we receive pictures and videos of you from home. We miss seeing you all so much and those moments truly warm all of our hearts.
We recognize that this time has been difficult for some of our students. Mrs. Bouchard, our behavior specialist, has been researching a number of resources that may help you on the home front. We will continue to share these with you. This week we feature a webinar for parents and two activities for you to try at home. In all honesty, we have used these activities ourselves and can tell you that they are equally effective for adults as well.
Finally, we know that the recent announcement leads to many questions about end of the year, returning supplies, collecting personal items, etc., etc., etc. Please know that we are working on getting answers to these and many other questions. We will communicate this information out to you as best and as soon as possible, but we are also very conscious of the amount of information that is coming at you. Your patience and understanding is what has gotten us through to this point and we know it will get us through further.
We miss you all and keep sending in those updates,

From the Library
Since we won't be returning to school this academic year, please take a moment to help your child locate any library books that they have checked out and tuck them away in a safe spot.  Students can see what is checked out to them by logging in to our library catalog with their Student ID and password.  No need to worry about overdue books! Just enjoy them and keep them safe until we're back together.  For more updates from the library, visit Mrs. Baldi's blog.  Stay well!

Dear PWS Families,
We have been so impressed by how hard everyone has been working during this time of remote learning. We miss you all and know that the students miss school and seeing each other as well. This past week we saw how Google Meets is working to create some level of connection between everyone in the PWS family. It is our hope that we will be able to participate more in these meetings and connect again with the students on our end. We can't wait to see all your faces again. Please take a moment and follow this link for our general expectations around Google Meets:
Today, the parent portal reopened for third quarter report cards. Please take a moment to sign in and view your child's progress. Click HERE if you need a reminder about accessing the report cards. Conversations are already happening about what report cards will look like if remote learning continues further. We will be sure to communicate these decisions with you as soon as possible.
While we are very much focused on remote learning at this time. Believe it or not it is also time to turn our attention to next year just a little bit. Soon we will begin the placement process for the 20-21 school year. Please see THIS LETTER for more information. If you are a parent of a current fourth grader, more information will be coming soon regarding McKelvie School.
We miss you all,

Dear PWS Families,
Week two of remote learning is now complete. This week brought on some video options and we are so pleased that this additional level of connection is now part of our plan. The school building is not the same with out the energy and joy that the children bring. We hope that this unique experience has allowed for some truly special moments at home. We are aware that this time has brought on some trials and hardships. Do know that we are here to support you in anyway that we can. Please email us so we may help.
While there are many questions that are still unanswered, we are sure of at least one thing and that is that the PWS community is amazing. The strength, resilience, flexibility, and cooperation has been incredible. We've always said that we are all in this together; never has that been more apparent than right now.
As we will do each week, please take a moment to fill out THIS SURVEY regarding the experience with remote learning this week.
