Peter Woodbury School- A Place Where People Care!
September 27, 2019
Dear PWS Families,
We can hardly believe that we are already at the end of September and that school has been in session for a month now. In that month, routines have been set, exploring has begun, and students have blossomed. It is fun to see, even the Kindergarteners, navigate the building and classrooms like experts.
Today the PTG held their annual Room Parent Luncheon. The library was lively with conversations between parents and teachers about how to make this the best year ever. Thank you to the parents who worked so hard, volunteered, or donated an item to make this event possible.
Finally today was our annual Cardboard Challenge in the fourth grade. We are always amazed how teamwork, creativity, grit, scissors, and some cardboard can make some truly remarkable outcomes. Great job by all our fourth graders, teachers, and parent helpers. It was a site to be seen!
Have a Great Weekend,

Tripod Survey Information
Between October 7th and October 25th, the district will administer the "Tripod Survey" to students in grades 2 - 12 (grade 1 will participate in the spring).  For the elementary schools, this includes "specials" (i.e. art, music, library and physical education) as well as enrichment.  This survey asks for the students' perspectives on our teaching practices. All survey responses are anonymous and confidential.  The purpose is to use this feedback to help our professional staff continue to improve. This year, parents were able to provide permission for their child to take the survey through InfoSnap registration.  If you opted your child out of the survey, please know that we will make other arrangements for him/her during the time that his/her class is taking the survey.
If you would like to view the surveys, please click on the links below.

Peter Woodbury School- A Place Where People Care!
September 20, 2019

Dear PWS Families,
It was great to have so many families come and visit our Open House last night. Once the doors were opened, it was a non stop flow of energy and excitement. Thank you also to anyone who stopped by the Book Fair over the past few days. In the end, we raised over $6,000 that will go right back into the school. Over the 5 days, there were 645 sales. Thank you to the many volunteers who ended up putting in over 200 hours to make this happen. A special thank you goes to Kerri Sullivan, Boom Belair, and Sarah Croteau for organizing this event.
Our School Counselor works tirelessly to address the needs of the students here at Peter Woodbury. I addition to working with students in small groups and individually, she also gets around to do whole class lessons as well. Recently, she has been working with the students about kindness. Please check out her website and subscribe to her blog to get up to date information about School Counseling at PWS. Mrs. Clark's Website
International Dot Day inspired the students and teachers to be creative and design their own dots.  The bulletin board shows the beauty of our creations when we all come together. "The Dot" by Peter Reynolds brought great conversations to all classrooms about the power of "yet".  It allowed teachers to discuss the concept of Growth Mindset vs. Fixed Mindset and that instead of saying, "I'm not good at..." we should say, "I'm not good at...yet."  The "YET" shows we are working hard at the skill and have a growth mindset.

Peter Woodbury School- A Place Where People Care!
September 13, 2019
Dear PWS Families,
This week brought us a few days of Fall and a few days of Summer. It was fun to watch the students try to figure out what the weather and temperature was outside before recess. This week was a good reminder that New England weather can be funny and tricky at best. Please make sure your children are dressed appropriately with options for whatever Mother Nature may throw our way. This gets harder and harder as the weeks go by, but we appreciate your help and attempts at this.
Today brought another level of excitement to the building as the Scholastic Book Fair was delivered and set up. The observations and questions by the students lead us to believe this is going to be an incredible Book Fair and fundraiser. More information is included below, but be sure to check out the fair next week.
We will still be checking IDs at Parent Drop Off until our regular duty teachers get more acquainted with parents and guardians. Even as we begin to stop asking for IDs, please make sure to always have yours on you. Sometimes we will need to use another staff member to cover parent pick up and they will not know you as well and will ask for your ID. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation of this added security measure.
Have a Great Weekend,

PWS Dot Day
Peter Woodbury is celebrating International Dot day this month!  September 15th  is the anniversary of the picture book, "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds.  This story celebrates the power of creative teaching by encouraging a very reluctant student to 'make her mark' which begins with a simple dot on paper.  The themes that teachers will be exploring are bravery, creativity, and self-expression.
Peter Woodbury is trying to spread the word that we are all creative and can inspire others!  At Open House, be sure to check out our wall of dots created by the students and staff at PWS!
PWS Chorus Sign Up
Fourth graders who enjoy singing and want to learn more about music are encouraged to join our Peter Woodbury School chorus. Students will meet on Tuesdays from 2:20 pm - 3:00 pm to learn new music and prepare for a variety of performances throughout the school year. Please click here to learn more about this wonderful musical opportunity and sign up your child.

On Friday, 10/20, the kitchen is preparing a delicious and completely from scratch meal.  We’ll serve local Pineland Farms meatballs baked in our own savory & sweet glaze of honey, tamari, garlic, ginger and apple cider vinegar. Dear PWS Families,
The second week of school is done and the excitement and energy of the new school year is still high. We continued our visits in the classrooms this week and are encouraged by how well the students are taking our message about being kind and spreading kindness. -Are Safe
- Take Care of Each Other and Our School
-Try Our Best
