January 25, 2019

PWS Families,
Hopefully you all enjoyed the couple extra hours added to our already long weekend. The frigid weather and rain caused a lot on indoor recesses for students this week. All the pent up energy was transferred into excitement in the classrooms with teachers planning some extra hands-on activities and movement breaks throughout the day. Please continue to send your child to school with all their cold weather gear on a daily basis because sometimes the weather reports aren't accurate and we get students outside.
The Principals' Winter Read is one of our favorite events of the year. We were thrilled to see how many families came to listen to the stories last night. This event always corresponds with the PTG Barnes and Noble Days, starting today. For those that are interested, Mrs. Daley will be reading at Barnes and Noble tonight at 5:30 and Mr. Mitchell will be there tomorrow at 12:30. We hope to see many of you there.
Our second spirit day is coming up this Wednesday, January 30. It will be Favorite Color Day. We cannot wait to see the the creative ways the students and staff choose to show off their favorite colors.
Second quarter report cards are now available on our parent portal. Remember, report cards are not sent home, but rather are available to you online. Please follow the link for information on how to access these report cards.

Remember that all Family Fun Night forms are due by this Wednesday, January 30.

Have a Great Weekend,

Cheryl Daley (Principal)

Join us on Wednesday, March 13th at 6:30pm at McKelvie Intermediate School for a 90-minute Q&A with Dr. Dawn Huebner, nationally recognized Psychologist, Parent Coach and author of award-winning mental health books for kids. Dr. Huebner is best known for her What to Do Guides - including What to Do When You Worry Too Much and Outsmarting Worry - which have sold over 1 million copies. Rather than giving a one-size-fits-all talk, Dr. Huebner will be answering audience questions about how to recognize anxiety in kids, how to respond to it, and how to build skills to better manage it. Questions can be submitted in advance, written on a note card that evening (to maintain anonymity) or asked live. This is not a group therapy session but instead an informative Q&A that will leave you with a clearer understanding of anxiety, what parents do that inadvertently feeds it, and how to help your child get on the path to defeating it.

PWS Families,
Today we held our annual Peter Woodbury School Spelling Bee. Twelve of our fourth graders brought their best spelling abilities to the table. After 18 intense rounds of spelling, Arjun Puninchittaya was our winner and Harshil Puvvadi was our Runner Up. Congratulations to them and to all the participants. They should all feel proud for their hard work and determination during this competition.

A reminder that our annual Family Fun Night is coming up in just a few weeks. More information can be found below, as well as a sign up to volunteer. Many adults are needed to make this event a success. Thank you for considering giving some of your time.

Second quarter report cards will be available on our parent portal starting next Friday. A reminder that report cards are not sent home, but rather are available to you online. Please follow the link for information on how to access these report cards.

Finally, we recognize there are times when you may have to drop your child off through the front entrance. Thank you for parking and walking your child in. However, we do request that you do not walk your child down to their classroom after signing them in. We would be more than happy to walk your child to their classroom if needed, but we are trying to limit the amount of people in the building. Thank you for your help and cooperation with this.

January 4, 2019

PWS Families,
Welcome back and Happy New Year! On Wednesday the students returned with their energy and tales of vacation. It sounds as if the vacation was just what everyone needed to recharge and have some unstructured time. Now everyone is ready to get down to work and the time off will make this next stretch of the school year productive and successful.
Thank you all for making Thursday's tricky arrival to school a successful and safe process. It's hard to believe that we haven't had more snowy weather days yet!  Remember that the parent drop off (in the back parking lot) should be used until 7:52. Once the flag is out, please proceed the the front parking lot, park your car, and escort your child into the building. Also, as a reminder, if you or another designated person, will be picking up your child from the office, please have your ID ready and available. If the office staff does not recognize you, they will ask for an identification. If you've communicated about another person dismissing your child then they should also be prepared to show their ID.
Finally, as we enter the new year we want to express our gratitude for an amazing 2018 as well as invite and encourage your feedback and any assistance we may provide you in 2019. Please reach out to either of us if there is anything we can do to make this year as good and easy as possible.

Happy New Year,

Cheryl Daley (Principal)
