February 24, 2017

Dear PWS Families,

It has certainly been a spirited week here at PWS. Starting with mustaches on Monday, sports day on Tuesday, Wacky Wednesday, the many characters we saw on Thursday, and the school spirit that abounded on Friday, it was certainly a wonderful week.  The students are so excited about their vacation next week!  Enjoy your time with them!  We look forward to their return on March 6th.

Headphones for Third and Fourth Grade
We received a few questions regarding yesterday's email about headphones. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused and hope the following language helps clarify the message.

In preparation for the upcoming Smarter Balanced Assessments, we are asking that each third and fourth grade student bring in their own pair of basic headphones (they can not be wireless or connect via bluetooth) to be left at school for the duration of the school year.  Please send the headphones to school in a Ziploc bag labeled with your child’s name. If you are unable to provide headphones for your child, please let Mrs. Daley or Mr. Mitchell know.

From the PTG
Thank you to everyone that participated in the Yankee Candle Fundraiser. Paper orders will be ready for pick up the week of March 13th. Please watch for notices with pick up details for each school. Online orders will be shipped directly to the purchaser.

Bedford Food Pantry – Items Needed for Children
Food Insecurity is a growing concern across the nation and right here in our own backyard.  Nearly 350 adults and children in Bedford qualify for food stamps and more than 167 families in Bedford meet the income standards for the government’s free school lunch program.
In light of these numbers, the Bedford Food Pantry has started a new program, School Lunch Plus, to provide students in Bedford who face food insecurity two lunches each weekend (with complete privacy/anonymity).  In order to provide two lunches for each student in need, the Food Pantry is looking for donations of these specific items.
If you are able to donate these items (these are ongoing donations), please bring them by the Bedford Food Pantry at the Bedford Presbyterian Church, 4 Church Road, Bedford, NH.
Parents/guardians, please contact the school guidance counselor or school nurse if you would like your child to participate in this program.

February 17, 2017

Dear PWS Families,
Thank you so much for making our annual Family Fun Night such a fantastic event.  The first session ran very smoothly with all our BHS student volunteers and wonderful activities.  The second session was great as well, however we recognize there was a major glitch with the pizza.  In being direct, we miscounted and simply did not order enough pizza and we deeply apologize to those families that this impacted. We hope that this did not put a damper on an otherwise enjoyable night.  We have learned from this mistake and next year we will triple count and order 20 percent more than is needed. Again, we know this should not have happened and want to reassure you we will not have this problem next year.

In addition to our many snow days and delays, there is now a lot of snow and not a lot of places to put it. This has added an obstacle to our parking lot. Our town and maintenance crews have done a great job to try and keep the parking lots and walk ways clear. However, the snow is also creating some blind spots in our parking lot. Please keep this in mind when driving through. We have had some unsettling, close calls lately. We appreciate everyone’s additional attention and focus in this area to keep and maintain the safety of all the PWS families. Thank You!

We want to let you know that we have finalized the dates for our Father/ Daughter Dance and Mother/ Son Event.
Father/ Daughter Dance will be on April 14th from 6:00 - 8:00.
Mother/ Son Event will be on on May 5th from 6:00 - 8:00
Make sure to save these dates for what is sure to be a great time by all. More details will be coming.

Finally, next week is a Spirit Week. Here are the themes for each day:

Monday 2/20: Mustache Monday
Tuesday 2/21: Sports Day-support your favorite team
Wednesday 2/22: Wacky Wednesday-be creative!
Thursday 2/23: Dress up as a favorite book or movie character
Friday 2/24: PWS school spirit day-wear your PWS gear or dress in black and white like a penguin

On Monday, the third grade visitation for parents will be in their classroom from 1:30 pm-2:00 PM.
On Tuesday, the fourth grade visitation for parents will in the multipurpose room from 9:30- 10:00 AM

Dear PWS Families,

Well this certainly was an interesting week. We feel bad about mentioning the fact that we had a full week last week, perhaps we jinxed it. Either way, thank you all for your cooperation with this week. The students handled it wonderfully. Thank you all for your understanding, patience, and  getting your children to school.

We are very excited about the upcoming Family Fun Night. The baskets have been coming in and they look great. All of the specifics are being taken care of and we are confident that this is going to be a great event. We can’t wait to see you on Wednesday night.

Dear PWS Families,

Happy 100th Day! If you weren’t aware, today was the 100th day of School. It was great to see all the different collections of 100 things the students brought in to celebrate. We even ended the day with some dance time to celebrate 100 days of learning, working, growing, and kindness.
This week was also the first full, five day week we have had in some time. It was great to see how much we all were able to accomplish. Family Fun Night is coming up in just over a week. The students are talking more and more about it and it has been great to see all the donated items coming in that will make up the classroom baskets. We can’t wait to see you all there.
