PWS Families,
It was a lovely week here at Peter Woodbury School. The colors red and pink filled the halls as students celebrated Valentine's Day. It was great to see so many family and friends come and join in these celebrations. The parties were clearly enjoyed by all.
We can feel the excitement building in the third and fourth grades for next week's Inventive Thinking Unit and Invention Convention. We cannot wait to see all of the creative projects, inventions, and Rube Goldbergs that will fill our school. Good luck to all who are participating.
Finally, if you have ever thought about becoming a substitute teacher, we will be having our first ever Substitute Information Open House. More information can be found below. We look forward to seeing many of you there. We could really use you.

Have a great weekend and remember there IS school on Monday,

Join us on Wednesday, March 13th at 6:30pm at McKelvie Intermediate School for a 90-minute Q&A with Dr. Dawn Huebner, nationally recognized Psychologist, Parent Coach and author of award-winning mental health books for kids. Dr. Huebner is best known for her What to Do Guides - including What to Do When You Worry Too Much and Outsmarting Worry - which have sold over 1 million copies. Rather than giving a one-size-fits-all talk, Dr. Huebner will be answering audience questions about how to recognize anxiety in kids, how to respond to it, and how to build skills to better manage it. Questions can be submitted in advance, written on a note card that evening (to maintain anonymity) or asked live. This is not a group therapy session but instead an informative Q&A that will leave you with a clearer understanding of anxiety, what parents do that inadvertently feeds it, and how to help your child get on the path to defeating it.
Check out Dr. Huebner in advance at her TEDx Talk on "Rethinking Anxiety: Learning to face fear" HERE.

PWS Families,
Yesterday's Family Fun Night was a huge success. It was great to see all the beautiful paper flowers, pinwheels, and flower pots that were created. It is safe to say that the adults had as much, if not more fun than the kids. Congratulations to all the basket and teacher raffle winners. Mrs. Daley can't wait to get slimed and Mr. Mitchell is super excited about getting drenched. Thank you to Mrs. Armstrong, the staff, parent volunteers, and Mrs. Gibbons and the kitchen crew for all your hard work in putting this event together. It truly is a community event.
We were excited that this week provided nice enough weather to get the students outside. Remember to send your children in ready to go outside. Also, as the snow begins to melt you may want to consider sending in some extra clothes to prepare for the unexpected mud mishaps.
This morning, the PTG was able to provide our staff with their coffee and snack cart. It was greatly appreciated and enjoyed by all. They definitely know how to make our day.
Some of the kindergarteners have been busy decorating paper grocery bags. They are sure to put smiles on the faces of customers at Harvest Market starting on Monday. This random act of kindness is to help spread the love to our community for Valentine's Day.

Have a Great Weekend,

Cheryl Daley, Principal
Dan Mitchell, Assistant Principal

PWS Families,
The plans are in place, the tickets are counted, and the basket items are starting to flow in. Thank you to the many staff members who prepped for our annual PWS Family Fun Night this week and to the parents who will wrap baskets next week. We are ready to go and excited to see you all on Thursday evening!
As cold and flu season is upon us, we find ourselves more and more in need of substitutes. If you have ever considered subbing, now is the time to apply. We know many of you spend hours here volunteering, and we are beyond thankful for that. Now you have the opportunity to spend the time and get paid for it. We pride ourselves on preparing our subs and making the job as easy as possible. If you are interested in applying click HERE to fill out an application and don't hesitate to reach out to either one of us.
February is a short month, but we have a lot of exciting things happening. Please make sure to pay attention to this blog for information about all the wonderful events coming up.

Have a Great Weekend, Stay Warm, and Go Pats!

Peter Woodbury Family Fun Night
Peter Woodbury School invites you to our annual Family Fun Night on Thursday, February 7th (with a snow day of Thursday, February 21st).  Our theme this year will be Growing Inside… Out - in honor of the 10th Anniversary of the PWS Community School Yard. Games and activities, for all ages, will be offered throughout the school for students and families to engage in and have fun.  Each classroom will donate a unique theme basket to raffle off that night. Our popular teacher raffle will be there too! The night will also include a book walk. A Book Walk is set up on the idea of musical chairs. Kids will walk around in a circle and try to be on a circle when the music stops. Pizza, salad, ice cream, and water will be served as well.
If you are able, please send in used, clean lids from small containers such as sour cream, margarine, etc. They will be used for a craft activity on Family Fun Night.
If you are interested and willing to be a parent volunteer for this great evening please follow this LINK to sign up. We would love to have your help.
