Family Fun Night
Dear Families,
We hope you have marked your calendars for our Family Fun Night (FFN) which will be held February 15, 2017! Planning for our fun filled night is "STEAM-ing" along.  Our student-designed t-shirts have become a tradition!  The students love having an investment in the night and seeing their work worn by their peers and PWS families.  To help offset the cost of the t-shirts this year, we welcome the financial support from businesses/corporation affiliated with PWS families.  In turn, we would love to advertise your company's name on the back of the student designed shirts. Please click HERE to learn more.  Stayed tuned for more FFN info!!!

From the Art Room
Classes have been busy and excited. First graders recently completed paper weavings and are now working on a collaged pair of matching (or not) socks. Second and third grade have finished one of their two pieces that will be in our spring art show. Fourth grade is in the middle of a weaving project. Art Club members are working on STEAM based centerpieces, using their art and engineering brain, for Family Fun Night.  A new exhibit from PWS has gone up in the district office. Click to see the PWS artists whose work is displayed this quarter.  Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who have helped these past few weeks!

Math and Science Volunteers
Are you looking for ways to volunteer in the classrooms?  Please consider signing up to help us with math and science activities.  CLICK HERE for more information.

Ecosmith Recycle Bins for Destination Imagination
Did you know that every school in the district has an Ecosmith Recycle Bin?  This is a great way to donate/recycle old clothes, while helping raise funds for our teams who advance to Global Finals each year.  You can put any kind of fabrics in these bins, towels and stuffed animals too.  Ripped shirts and pants with holes are fine, as well as well worn shoes.  Bedford DI greatly appreciates your continued participation in this program.

Engineer Volunteers
We are looking for a few engineer volunteers to help a PWS student get a prosthetic hand. We are teaming with students at the Academy of Science and Design in Nashua who will meet every Monday from 3:30-4:30. They are establishing a chapter of the E-Nable Organization and will be utilizing 3D printing to make prosthetics. Their hope is to make a prosthetic for any child in NH who may be in need of one. Please contact Mr. Mitchell (mitchelld@sau25.net) if you are interested or have any questions.

Dear PWS Families,

We hope you all enjoyed the snow day on Monday!  It was a great day to get outside to play and enjoy the winter weather.  We love driving by all the homes and  seeing all the fun creations children are able to make with the snow.

We spent time at recess with the fourth grade chess club.  It was so interesting to watch how carefully and strategically they planned their next moves.

Michele Leyden our Reading Specialist has updated her website please give it a visit.

Mrs. Cassamassino our technology educator has also updated her website.

This year there will be some changes to how the Invention Convention will run.  Please visit Mrs. Speaker’s  website for more information.

*Note: A Charlie Card (Mass Bay Transportation Authority) was found in parent pick up.  If this is yours, please visit the front office.

Dear PWS Families,

What a terrific week we had at PWS!  Snow came on Monday and we all worked together to get the students here safely! Thank you to everyone who did their part to get through this first snow event of the year.

Yesterday’s Ellis Island Day for fourth grade was a huge success!  Please see pictures below.

IMG_4973.jpgIMG_5128.jpgIMG_5210.jpg

On December 22nd the staff at PWS will be performing a Chorus concert to entertain the students.  This has become a tradition at PWS and the students are very much looking forward to it. It is sure to be a great time.

Next time you are in the building please make sure to visit our newest addition. A large World Map has been installed on the wall outside of the Multi Purpose Room. Special thanks goes to Mrs. Speaker, Mrs. Beltramo, and the SAU maintenance team for making this possible.

Thank you so much for the generous donations during this week’s food drive.  Through everyone’s generosity we were able to donate close to 3,000 items to benefit the New Hampshire Food Bank. Your donations are greatly appreciated and will go a long way in this season of giving.

December Book Display

The book display is all new for the month of December. This month the case contains 21 mystery envelopes. These envelopes will be opened once a day to reveal a new book. This will all lead to the Winter Solstice on December 21st. The book of the day will be revealed each day prior to dismissal. We can’t wait to see which books we will discover next week.

Dear PWS Families,

We love our professions!  We started the morning in the KPlus room singing and dancing with students!  What could be better!

Congratulations to Mrs. Norfolk’s fourth grade for being the first class to win the fourth grade trophy for excellence in the Dining Room. We can’t wait to see who wins next month.

We hope that you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving break last week. This week the students came back refreshed and ready to take on this next stretch of school.

2016 Peter Woodbury School Annual Food Drive
During this time of year we are increasingly aware of how fortunate we are to have good friends, loving families, a place to call home, and food to eat. Unfortunately, we know that so many in our community are not as fortunate, and we feel that there is something we can do to help. Since we know that food banks are always in need of food, Peter Woodbury is holding a food drive for the New Hampshire Food Bank.
Students can start bringing in canned goods, dry goods, and any other non- perishable food items this Friday. Contributions are not required and we are aware that there are so many different ways, events, issues, and causes to donate to and one family certainly cannot do it all. We'll kick off our food drive with a one item small donation this Friday, December 2nd. When 500 kids each do something small it adds up really fast; together we can really make a difference. Next week we'll target items that are of particular need by having theme days (listed below). All nonperishable items are appreciated and accepted. Thank you for considering this important effort and we wish everyone the best during the holidays.

Friday, (12/2) - Any item “Together we can make difference!”
Monday (12/5) - Mac & Cheese
Tuesday (12/6) - Tuna
Wednesday (12/7) - Cereal
Thursday (12/8) - Peanut Butter
Friday (12/9) - Soup
