May 25, 2017

Dear PWS Families,

Hello, we had a fantastic four day week!  Today, our second graders went to Squam Lake while all the other students enjoyed indoor recess. There was a lot of chatter and excitement as they played and shared the recess games!  We know they are all looking forward to spending the long weekend with their families!
Due to the Bedford PTG’s support for the Artist in Residence program, we were pleased to host illustrator Janet Stevens this week.  She gave three incredible presentations to the kindergarten, first and second grade students. Janet Stevens has been writing and or illustrating books for over 30 years! It is always fantastic to have authentic experiences with aspiring authors and illustrators. We are thankful to Ms. Stevens and the PTG for making this experience possible.
Janet's titles include such favorites as Cook- a- Doodle-Doo, The Great Fuzz Frenzy, Help Me, Mr. Mutt and The Little Red Pen. Janet’s books have received numerous honors including, Time Magazine Best Books of the Year, ALA Notable books, Children’s Choice awards, Wanda Gag Book Best Read Aloud Award, New York Times Bestseller list and the Caldecott Honor for Tops and Bottoms.
Fourth Grade Drama Club treated Janet, kindergarten, first, and second grades to a production of The Little Red Pen.  She was so impressed by the student designed costumes and sets, as well as the great acting.
A special thanks to our teacher/mentors; Mrs. Norfolk, Mrs. Curran, Mrs. Ferenc, Mrs. Piantedosi, Mrs. Denon, and Mrs. Beltramo.

PWS Happenings
A Note from Mrs. Ewing
At this time of year, the students may spend a little more time outdoors. It would be a good idea for parents to apply sunscreen and/or bug repellent before the students arrive each day. We are not able to reapply during the school day.  Please remember to apply sun block as well.

Summer Skills
Many parents are looking for ways to keep their child's academic skills sharp over the summer. If you would like to do this, we recommend using the Summer Skills Sharpeners Book from Tri-C Publication. You should order your child's current grade level if you choose to order.

Dear PWS Families,

Calling all volunteers! If you volunteered once or everyday this year we want to invite you to the PWS Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast which will be held on Wednesday May 24th at 9am in the cafeteria.  We would love to see you there!

PWS Happenings

We have had an exciting week and thought that we would share some pictures to help convey all that took place. First, Mrs. Daley got her annual Slime Shower after the fourth grade chorus and string club performance. Special Congratulations go to Mrs. Curran and the fourth grade chorus for their two excellent performances this week. And job well done by Nitya Gottemukkala who won the opportunity to dump all that slime on Mrs. Daley.

Who wants to go on a shape hunt? Mrs. Thompson’s first graders did just that today! They took the iPads through the hallways and outside to see what shapes they could find in their everyday world.

May 11, 2017

Dear PWS Families,

Thank you to everyone who made today’s Grandparents’ Day such a success. We welcomed close to 500 grandparents for food, tours, a fourth grade chorus concert and lively demonstrations. It certainly was an exciting morning. Special thanks goes to our Kitchen staff for preparing a lovely breakfast and to our PTG volunteers, led by Jenny Caouette and Samantha Farrow, for making today run so smoothly.

PWS Happenings
Grade 3 Tinker Day
This afternoon, the third graders got the chance to participate in a Tinker Day. The students decided what their focus would be and then got down to exploring. The students created a motorized creation, played mind challenging games, built structures, created a tower that was close to 7 feet tall, and even made their own fidget spinners. If you have a third grader please be sure to ask how they spent their time.
