Dear PWS Families,

We would like to take a moment to wish you all a wonderful February vacation! We had another great week of having all hybrid K-1 students in for five days of in-person instruction. Friday was also a busy day at PWS with all of our hybrid 2-4 students here for in-person instruction. It has been awesome to continue to see new friendships being formed and full classes learning together! Many classes had a great time playing out in the fresh snow today at recess. We appreciate the continued parent support as we navigate the reopening of our schools. Please take a moment to read the updates on everything going on in the PWS community.

PWS News:

From the Library:

Happy February vacation to all PWS families!  Vacation is a great time to read for fun.  If you're looking for a good ebook or audiobook over break, log in to Sora for free access to over 2,000 titles.  Learn how to log in on the library's webpage.

Happy reading!  Mrs. Baldi

Masks:

If possible, please send your student(s) in with a second mask. Many masks are getting wet in the snow during recess! Thank you for your attention in this matter!

Quarantine vs. Elective Travel:

As some families start to plan for February Vacation, we wanted to send a reminder about elective travel. Families who elect to stay home or travel will not receive the same service as those students who are required to be excluded. Our schools have an obligation to provide an education to students who are required to quarantine and be excluded from school due to exposure.  These students are a priority for our teachers (aside from the ones in front of them, of course).   Also, if you do plan to travel outside of New England at any time, please make sure that you contact our nurse, Sam Ewing (in addition to your child’s classroom teacher) as she is responsible for setting quarantine dates for our students and staff members.

STEAM Challenge Kits:

We've had a lot of excitement centered around the February STEAM Challenge Kits that were sent home. Unfortunately we have run into delayed shipments for some supplies for the month of February. This has resulted in some classes not having received their kits yet. We promise they will be handed out as soon as possible. Every single student and every single class will receive a bag for February, for March and for April. Thank you for being patient and understanding!

Kindergarten and 1st Grade Registration (2021 – 2022):

Starting Monday, February 1st, you may download and print out registration packets from the PWS Website (under the School Information tab—New Student Registration) or stop by our school to pick one up.

The packets need to be returned to the school by Thursday, March 4th.  A $525 deposit is required with the K+ registration (checks made out to Bedford School District).

  • A child must attain his/her 5th birthday on or before September 30, 2021 to be eligible for kindergarten.

  • A child must attain his/her 6th birthday on or before September 30, 2021 to be eligible for first grade.

Kindergarten students who are currently enrolled at PWS (or anywhere in the district) do not need to register for 1st grade.

Kids Vote:

This year we will not be having a PWS kids vote.  We are hoping to continue with this tradition starting next year.  We do encourage parents/guardians to vote on March 9th.

PTG News:

KNOW THE FIVE SIGNS OF EMOTIONAL DISTRESS:

Back in 2017 Former Supreme Court Justice Broderick spoke to students, teachers and parents of Bedford about his own experience with mental illness in his family, the 5 signs of emotional distress and the need to change our perceptions and remove the stigma surrounding mental health. Although this video is 4 years old the message is still relevant today.

The Bedford PTG wishes you and your family a wonderful February Break!

Have a safe and happy February break, we will see you all in March!

Dear PWS Families,

Wow! What an exciting Friday we had at PWS! The PWS physical classrooms were filled with our students and our virtual classrooms continued with business as usual online! We saw so many smiling faces as our students came together to meet their cohort counterparts. Several students remarked that it felt like the first day of school all over again! We appreciate your continued support and understanding as we maneuver into this new phase of reopening our school. Please take a moment to look at news and updates from around the PWS community! Have a Happy Valentine’s Day Weekend!

February 5th, 2021

Dear PWS Families,

We are so excited to be writing to you on this Friday! PWS looks forward to welcoming back our K-1 hybrid learners for five days of school next week. We are also highly anticipating the return of our hybrid 2-4 learners on all Fridays! Please take some time to review some reminders and information about our recent change in phases. It will be important to be up to date to make the next few weeks go smoothly. Enjoy the snow and we can’t wait for next week!

PWS News:

IMPORTANT PHASE CHANGE UPDATE:

Protocol Information for Phase 2 of our Reopening Metrics

The district has now experienced 2 “green weeks.” As a result, the following will occur:

  • Kindergarten and first grade hybrid students will return for 100% (Monday-Friday) in-person learning beginning Monday, February 8th

  • Grades 2-8 hybrid students will return to in-person learning on Fridays, beginning on Friday, February 12th.

  • Remote students will continue with their remote instruction.

Below is updated protocol information for K/1 (everyday) and all students on Fridays:

Distancing:  We will now maintain 3 feet rather than 6 feet of distancing.  Staff members will continue to maintain 6 feet of distancing.  *NH DHHS still requires 6 feet for contact tracing purposes.

Lunch:  Students who are getting a school lunch will enter the cafeteria and get in the lunch line, standing 3-6 ft apart and masked.  They will sit 3 to a table, spaced 3 feet apart.  Lunch tables will continue to be disinfected and rinsed after each lunch period. Please be sure to continue to pre-order meals. This is extremely helpful in the planning and production of meals. Pre-ordering meals can be done through www.sendmoneytoschool.com. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Emily Murphy (603-472-3755 x 21242) email murphye@bedfordnhk12.net. FYI all school meals remain free until the end of the school year.

Recess:  Students will play with their classmates in their designated recess areas.  Classes will not be mixed at this time.

Drop off/Pick Up:  These procedures will remain the same, but will definitely take longer, especially on Fridays. Parent drop off starts at 7:45 am and Parent pick up starts at 2:15 pm.   Once we have a baseline for how the procedures are working, we will make adjustments, if necessary.

Buses:  Buses, most likely, will be fuller.  Students will sit 1 to a seat until they fill up, and then they will sit 2 to a seat.  Students will continue to sit by grade level, wear masks and windows will be open/cracked.

All other mitigation measures will continue (wearing masks, washing/sanitizing hands and social distancing). We will do our best not to mix cohorts outside of the classroom, but there may be some circumstances when that is not possible (i.e. support services, etc.).

**Please take a look at the Superintendent Fournier's note about the implications of bringing the students into school more.  You can find it HERE
