Peter Woodbury School- A Place Where People Care!
December 20, 2019
Dear PWS Families,
This week before vacation has certainly been a festive one. It has been exciting to see the many ways the students have gotten into the season. The decorations, colors, creative sweaters and outfits, and Hot Cocoa have certainly gotten us ready. It is wonderful and a true reminder of the meaning of the holidays. This morning we were able to gather as a school community for a Whole School meeting where we sang songs and heard messages of kindness.
Speaking of kindness, Mrs. Daley and Mrs. Clark have recorded a short video that talks about kindness and our recent Kindness Challenge. It can be seen HERE.
Today we bid farewell to Mrs. Banash, one of our beloved lunch and recess monitors. While we will miss her we know her new opportunity is going to be wonderful. This leaves a vacancy at this position. If you are interested in coming and working at our amazing school for a few hours a day please reach out to Mr. Mitchell and he can give you all the details.
Finally, we want to take a moment to wish you all a wonderful and restful holiday and break. 2019 has been a wonderful year and we look forward to what 2020 has to bring. We will miss you all terribly over this vacation, but we wish you all the rest and relaxation you need. We can't wait to see you in 2020.
Have a Great Vacation,
Cheryl Daley, Principal

Peter Woodbury School- A Place Where People Care!
December 13, 2019
Dear PWS Families,
Yesterday we finished our very successful food drive. Thank you to all the students, staff, and families who donated to help our neighbors in need. As a school, we collected over 2,000 items and filled three large bins with food.
The excitement of the holiday season and the impending vacation is filling the halls of Peter Woodbury School. It has been fun seeing the many ways the children are starting to get into the season.
As part of our Bee Kind movement, the trophy case in the lobby is being transformed into a beehive of kindness. As students are recognized for their kind acts, another cone will be added to the hive. We know that it will be filled in no time.
Finally, we want to take a moment to once again thank the PTG for providing the staff with an amazing Coffee Cart this morning. We so appreciate the ways our parents go above and beyond to make us feel special. It is appreciated more than you could ever know.
Have a Great Weekend,

December 6, 2019
Dear PWS Families,
Today our fourth grade students had the opportunity to experience what it might be like to arrive at Ellis Island in 1900. They were given mental, physical, and academic tests. We are glad to report that all were accepted to this "new" country. Thank you to Mrs. Speaker, the fourth grade teachers, and many other staff and parents who helped make this a truly memorable learning experience for our students.
Our food drive will wrap up this Monday. We are already close to filling two large bins. More information can be found below.
Finally, once we were able to return this week we were greeted with a new element: snow. We have been working with the students to remind them of the expectations now that there is snow on the schoolyard. To parents, please make sure your child is dressed with snow pants, boots, gloves/mittens, hat, and jacket if they would like to play in the snow. Without these items their choices will be limited. Remember, we also have morning recess before school and these same expectations still apply. If they want to play in the snow in the morning they should arrive ready with their gear on. Thank you for your assistance and cooperation with this.

November 22, 2019
Dear PWS Families,
Today is one of our favorite days of the year because it is our annual Kindergarten Thanksgiving Feast. It is amazing how many parents, family, and friends come out and enjoy this celebration of food, song, and our wonderful kindergartners. It definitely puts us in the right frame of mind to go into the Thanksgiving Week. We look forward to welcoming our first grade parents this Monday for Visitation Day.
As we go into next week we want to take a moment to express our thanks to all of you. Peter Woodbury School is a truly special place to work and come to everyday. In the short time we have had this year, your support has made such an incredible impact. From Its a Gas to the Book Fair and everything in between we truly could not do what we do without you. We are forever grateful for you.
With Thanks,

Peter Woodbury School Food Drive
During this time of year we are increasingly aware of how fortunate we are to have good friends, loving families, a place to call home, and food to eat. Unfortunately, we know that so many in our community are not as fortunate, and we feel that there is something we can do to help. Since we know that food banks are always in need of food, Peter Woodbury is holding a food drive for the New Hampshire Food Bank, as well as the Bedford Community Food Pantry.
This year, we will continue to partner with the Bedford Community Food Pantry in providing food for their School Lunch+ program.  This provides backpacks on Fridays with food for students over the weekend. This month, we are collecting single serving juice bottles (no glass please). (Bedford Community Food Pantry- School Lunch+
Students can start bringing in canned goods, dry goods, and any other non- perishable food items the Monday after Thanksgiving (December 2). Contributions are not required and we are aware that there are so many different ways, events, issues, and causes to donate to and one family certainly cannot do it all. We'll kick off our food drive with a one item, small donation on Monday, December 2. When 500+ kids each do something small it adds up very fast; together we can make a difference. Next week, we'll target items that are of particular need by having theme days (listed below). All nonperishable items are appreciated and accepted. Thank you for considering this important effort and we wish everyone the best during the holidays.

November 15, 2019
Dear PWS Families,
Parent teacher conference week is one of our favorite times of the school year. It is nice to catch up with you all as you come to hear about the progress your child has made and witness the great work that has been done. It is another reminder of the incredible families we have at PWS that make it such an amazing school.
This week we got a little sneak peak at what Winter will be like. With the temperatures tumbling, please remember to make sure your child is dressed appropriately for outside activities. We will go outside if the temperature is over 20 degrees, but that is still pretty cold. Our teachers and staff do a fantastic job of coordinating the many layers the children need to be comfortable outside and then productive and engaged inside.
Kindness was all over the school this week as we celebrated part of National Kindness Month. Each day began with a kindness message as part of the morning announcements. Also, during this week, classes chose other classes to perform random acts of kindness for. These random acts of kindness came through in special notes written, songs sung, and one class even received fortune tellers.
A reminder that student report cards are now available on the Parent Portal. You can log on and see your child's report card for the first quarter. If you need directions on how to log onto the portal please click HERE

Peter Woodbury School- A Place Where People Care!
November 8, 2019
Dear PWS Families,
This morning's weather seems like the perfect way to remind everyone that Winter is coming. As you all know, Winter in New Hampshire can be quite the unpredictable event. It is always our intent to get the students out to recess as best we can. The students will go out to recess if the temperature is above 20 degrees. Please plan and dress the children accordingly. With that said, we often experience major temperature shifts throughout the day, so please do your best to provide the options they may need so that they can go out comfortably and enjoy the fresh air.
Student report cards are now available on the Parent Portal. You can log on and see your child's report card for the first quarter. If you need directions on how to log onto the portal please click HERE
We often get questions about absences and tardies. Mrs. Daley has recorded a video to help answer some of those questions. Please click HERE to see the video.
Finally, we ended our day today with a moving Veterans Day assembly. We thank the many Veterans who were able to join us and be an example for our students. In honor of this holiday, the students dismissed today in silence to remember those that served and serve for us. We thank and honor all the Veterans that are in one way or another a part of Peter Woodbury School.
Have a Great Weekend,
Cheryl Daley, Principal
Dan Mitchell, Assistant Principal
