News from PWS
Thank You from the New Hampshire Food Bank
Dear Peter Woodbury School,
On behalf of all of us at the New Hampshire Food Bank and those we serve, thank you for collecting food to help the NH Food Bank serve those in need. The total weight of the food you donated was 3,261, which amounts to approximately 2,717 meals for the hungry.
Your donation not only helps put meals on the tables of the 10% of individuals in our state who don't know when or where their next meal will come from, but you also help take potentially difficult decisions off someone's plate. For that, we are truly grateful.
Each and every day, people across New Hampshire are forced to make tough choices. Heat or eat. Lights or dinner.Rent or a meal. While many of us may never have to consider these choices, thousands of New Hampshire residents grapple with these types of difficult decisions. A few meals for a family in need might be what it takes for them to keep the lights on, heat their home, make rent or get important medical care.
With the help of so many incredibly generous donors, like you, we were able to provide 12.7 million pounds of food to over 425 food pantries, soup kitchens, senior centers, children's programs, and other human service agencies throughout the state in 2016. Your investment in our organization not only helps provide the critical resource of food and programming to our neighbors in need, it also strengthens our continued focus on finding ways to end the cycle of hunger.
Please know how much we appreciate your gift. We are truly indebted to individuals and businesses who, like you, unselfishly give of their resources, time and talents to help us strive for a food secure New Hampshire - and for that we are truly grateful.
Warmly,
Nancy Mellitt
Director of Development

What are those Numbers in the Windows?
Parents may have noticed that classrooms across the district now have numbers posted in their exterior windows. Those signs are a part of the Bedford School District Incident Command System (ICS). ICS is the nationwide emergency planning protocol established by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The numbers would allow emergency responders to quickly identify classrooms from outside of the building.

PWS PrinciPal’s News
PWS Families,
With one week left until vacation, the excitement in the building is certainly growing. The Snowfall to begin the week certainly cemented the fact that we are officially in the Winter months. As a reminder, we will make every opportunity to get the children outside during the Winter. If the temperature, including Wind Chill, is about 20 degrees, they will be outside. We recommend that students come to school prepared to go outside with Winter gear, including Snow pants, boots, gloves, a hat, and coat. If a child does not have snow pants and boots, their options will be limited at recess. Your help and cooperation as we go into this interesting winter weather season is greatly appreciated.

Have a Great Weekend,

PWS PrinciPal’s News
PWS Families,
Once again I am overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity shown by the Peter Woodbury School Family. Today was the last day of our annual Food Drive. In the past week we have filled a large van and three large bins full with 3,400 donated food items. Special thanks to Mrs. Lombo and her class for putting in the work to coordinate this project and load the van on Tuesday.

This morning was our annual Ellis Island Day. This event is the culmination of weeks of hard work by our fourth graders. They were well prepared to experience what it might have been like to be an immigrant in the early 1900’s. It was a very special and meaningful experience for all involved.

Have a Great Weekend,

PWS PrinciPal’s News
PWS Families,
I hope that you all had a beautiful and restful Thanksgiving break. It is always difficult to come back to a full week after the shorter week of Thanksgiving. The students though, were eager and ready to get back to work.  On Tuesday, one of our Kindergarteners won the opportunity to ride to school on a Bedford Fire Engine. It was an exciting way to start the day for her and all her Kindergarten classmates, who came out to welcome her.

This week our some of our first grade students were able to build mazes that their little robots then had to get through. Our second graders continued their explorations of habitats. This afternoon the third grade enjoyed Tinker Time, where they discovered and learned through robotics, engineering, building, and coding. Finally, our fourth graders represented PWS quite nicely as they visited the New Hampshire State House.

Today, we started our Annual Food Drive. We are always so overwhelmed by the generosity of the PWS family. More information can be found below. In addition to this food drive, we will also be running a bi-monthly collection of food to support the Bedford Pantry. Every other month, we will collect one specific item to support them. To start, the individual juice bottles collected on Monday will be going directly to them.

Have a Great Weekend,
