Friday, September 27, 2013

Hello,
Happy Friday!  We want to keep you updated on a couple of items at school.  We continue to work on improvement in the lunch room.  Some days students stand in the hot lunch line longer than others.  We have expedited the process and will work each day to make sure students have enough time to eat their lunch.  During first and second grade lunch so many student have said they are having a difficult time eating because they are losing their teeth.  So cute!  The nurse said that many students have been in her office this week to get a treasure box for a tooth.

You received the Tattle Tale newsletter this week. We want to thank Mrs. Dainesi and Mrs. Poltronieri for all their hard work. Thank you, as well, to all the additional parent volunteers that helped with this publication.  In addition, we want to thank the local businesses who generously support this project.

The PWS attire website is live and will be  continuously updated.  A link can be found posted on the PWS Facebook page.  We will send you the final link next week when it has been completed.

Finally, September is ending and the cold weather has arrived.  Please remember to send your students to school with coats.  Often it is cooler in the morning and then it warms up by lunch recess.

If you ever have any concerns or questions please feel free to contact us.  Have a great weekend!

Friday, September 20, 2013.

Hello PWS Families,
We have had another great week at school.  As always we want to encourage you to  communicate any concerns or questions you have about your child or the school.  This open communication helps to improve PWS and keep it the community that it is.

Open House
It was a great success!  The police on duty stated that they have never seen that many cars!!!  It was nice to be able to meet and see so many of you. We are so glad you all came and your children got a chance to share what they are learning in their classroom.

Lunchroom
We have received feedback about our procedures in the cafeteria.  Starting yesterday, we have two computers set up, for students to give their numbers to, in the lunch line.  This moves the hot lunch line along faster.  In addition, we are going to be in the lunchroom at each lunch to model what the procedures look like.  We did this yesterday and all students had at least 15 minutes to eat.  If you continue to have any concerns we really appreciate you contacting a staff member or administration.

Mission Statement
We recently decided that Peter Woodbury needed a new statement that adequately voiced what it is that we are all about here at Peter Woodbury School. After much consideration, reflection , and thought it was decided that the new statement would be:

"Peter Woodbury School is a community that inspires and develops engaged, successful learners every chance, every day."

The three words we will focus on are community, inspiration and engagement.  We are working with the student council to put a presentation together, for each grade level, to review the mission and what it means.

Box Tops
Today, we went around to give each classroom a box to put Box Tops in:)  Your child will come home with a baggie to put the Box Tops in with the teachers name on it.  Box Tops money will go directly back to the teachers to get materials for their classrooms that students will benefit from.  No donation is too small and every Box Top makes a difference. We want to thank Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Hauser for all their dedication to this fundraiser.

Student Directory
The deadline for the PWS student directory was yesterday.  However, if you are still interested in being included in the directory please send in the blue form and we will make sure your child is in it.
Thanks,

Have a great weekend,

Hello,
Happy Friday!  We hope your child has been coming home from school sharing what they are learning.  We want to remind everyone that PWS Open House is on Tuesday, September 17th from 6:00-7:00 for K, 1 and 2.  Grades 3 and 4 will be from 7:00-8:00.  This is a great night for you to see some of  your child's work and meet their teacher.

An important message about our AlertNow phone calls.
This year, we are using a different service that has some unique enhancements.  One of these is that instead of the SAU Office number being shown on your Caller ID, the number 855-344-6323 will be displayed.  Parents or students may call this toll-free number to replay any previous notification.  When your Caller ID feature is enabled, the phone call will display the toll-free Caller ID number noted above. If you want to call into the system to listen to a message you may have missed, you simply hit re-dial on your phone, and, if your Caller ID is not blocked, the system will identify you and play back the most recent 10 calls to that number from the past 30 days - including the time/date that the message was sent.

If you have your caller ID blocked, the system will prompt you to enter the number that received the original call, after which the system will reply with the recent messages to that number.  We anticipate that this enhancement will be beneficial if the phone call was dropped in the middle of the message or there were other difficulties in the transmission.

DID YOU REMEMBER TO SIGN UP FOR THE BEDFORD PTG?  IT’S NOT TOO LATE!
The Bedford Parent Teacher Group (PTG) is a non-profit organization of parents, teachers, administrators and concerned citizens working together to provide our children with the best possible educational experience.  By becoming a PTG member, you help sponsor enrichment programs and assist in purchasing equipment & learning materials for our children.  Join the PTG and enjoy the many opportunities available to participate in our school events and in your child’s classroom!
The annual membership cost is $15.00 per family.  Just complete & return the membership form to your child’s school.  You can download the form at http://bedfordptg.org/join-us/membership/
We thank you for your continued support of the Bedford PTG!

On Wednesday we had some visitors on the school yard in the morning.  There were two unleased dogs.  Students were escorted inside until Mr. Mitchell got the dogs back to their owners.  The students were happy to be able to go back outside and play for the remainder of the morning recess time.

On Friday, we experienced a power outage. This was only momentary but it did take some time for PSNH to restore power to the entire school. For approximately an hour we were at partial power. The students handled this unexpected delay with composure and understanding.

Finally, a reminder that this Thursday, Sept. 19th is school picture day. Forms will be coming home this week.

Hello,
Yesterday we had our first PWS fire drill.  Students walked out of the building quickly and quietly in one minute and thirty seconds.  Please congratulate your child(ren) on a job well done.  We will continue to have drills throughout the school year to ensure safety for the students and staff at Peter Woodbury School.

Please return the yellow PTG volunteer form if you have not already done so.  The volunteer coordinators use this form to organize the volunteers for the school year.  Thanks so much!

Beginning Monday, September 9 an automated attendance calling system will be implemented. The elementary calls will go out at 9:30am.  School messenger will call parents of the students on the absentee list, even if you have called them in yourself.  If you get a phone call and your student is supposed to be at school please notify the main office.  Thanks for your patience with this new system.
