PWS PrinciPal’s News

Hello PWS Families,

This week we were so fortunate to get around to all the grade levels to see some fantastic learning and growing. Mr. Boucher (the district’s Math & Science Coordinator for K-8)  visited our Kindergarteners to do some fun math/science activities with pumpkins. They measured the pumpkin’s circumference, counted the seeds, and guessed whether it would sink or float. First graders continue to become readers by working on their decoding skills. A second grader was able to capture the meaning of the story Never Cry Wolf, which is to always tell the truth. The third grade has been using ChromeBooks to enhance their experience with the unit on Native Americans they’ve just began. Finally, the fourth grade is in full preparation and learning mode as they prepare for their upcoming Ellis Island Day.

Halloween Parade
Peter Woodbury's Annual Halloween Parade is scheduled to begin at 1:30 on Tuesday, October 31st. (Morning Kindergarteners will have their own parade at 10:15.)  Here are some key points to remember for this day:
  • Students should bring their costumes to school as they will have the opportunity to put them on prior to the parade starting.
  • If the costume involves pieces that could be considered a weapon or weapon like, please leave those pieces at home.
  • If you will be dismissing your child after the parade you will do so directly from your child's classroom. Each teacher will have an early dismissal sheet for parents to sign.
  • Parents should line up outside as indicated by the orange safety cones set up along the playground.
Don't hesitate to reach out to your child's classroom teacher with any questions.

Box Tops For Education Program
PWS participates in the Box Tops For EducationTM program - which means that we get money for our schools by sending in lots of little teeny- tiny rectangles.  Last year, we earned almost $3000, which went directly to the teachers to purchase items for their classrooms.
Over the next few weeks, classroom volunteers will be introducing the program to our new students and reminding returning students that they can help raise money for items in their classroom. We will collect and mail our Box Tops a few times a year.
What you can do to help:
1.       Clip and Bring: Look for pink Box Tops on products, clip them, and send them to school in your student’s Go Binders.  (Be sure to also include any special Box Top Codes or Bonus Box Tops!)
2.       Ask your Neighbors/Family: Send a note out to your neighbors that don't have school-age kids; they may not be aware that they are throwing away money.
3.       Become a BTFE Member: If you become a member on www.BTFE.com, you can enter PWS into ongoing raffles for free Box Tops, and get exclusive great coupons to products.
For more information on the Box Tops for Education program, including a list of participating products and our school’s progress, visit www.BTFE.com.
