PWS PrinciPal’s News

Dear PWS Families,
It seems like the long weekend did a lot of good and was quite needed by everyone. The students returned this week with a renewed energy and focus on the work to be done. Watching the fourth grade classes transform into students of older days, as part of their field trip to the Little Brick Schoolhouse, has been wonderful. Thank you to all of the parents and volunteers that have made these trips a success.
Our annual Math and Literacy Night will be this Thursday from 6:00 to 7:15 PM. The night will feature grade appropriate activities to play as a family, information about our programs, and read alouds with Mrs. Daley and Mr. Mitchell.   So please come out as a family and enjoy some family fun and learning.

Cheryl Daley (Principal)
Dan Mitchell (Assistant Principal)

News from PWS
Global Cardboard Challenge Day
The fourth graders practiced engineering, problem solving, teamwork, and patience today during our Global Cardboard Challenge event.

Inspired by Caine's Arcade (a 9 year old's creation out of cardboard that drew national attention a few years back), student engineers spent lots of time planning and designing in preparation for the event.

It was an exciting and inspiring day!

Bedford Bulldog
PWS is excited to have the district Bulldog for a bit. Students will be working with Mrs. Piantedosi to paint a section of it. Each school is adding a section and now it is our turn. We are anxious to see the final product.

Box Tops For Education Program
PWS participates in the Box Tops For EducationTM program - which means that we get money for our schools by sending in lots of little teeny- tiny rectangles.  Last year, we earned almost $3000, which went directly to the teachers to purchase items for their classrooms.
Over the next few weeks, classroom volunteers will be introducing the program to our new students and reminding returning students that they can help raise money for items in their classroom. We will collect and mail our Box Tops a few times a year, with the next collection set for Monday, October 16.
What you can do to help:
1.       Clip and Bring: Look for pink Box Tops on products, clip them, and send them to school in your student’s Go Binders.  (Be sure to also include any special Box Top Codes or Bonus Box Tops!)
2.       Ask your Neighbors/Family: Send a note out to your neighbors that don't have school-age kids; they may not be aware that they are throwing away money.
3.       Become a BTFE Member: If you become a member on www.BTFE.com, you can enter PWS into ongoing raffles for free Box Tops, and get exclusive great coupons to products.
For more information on the Box Tops for Education program, including a list of participating products and our school’s progress, visit www.BTFE.com.

Parent participants represent each of the schools and encompass all grade levels. Meetings are held monthly on the third Wednesday from 9-10 AM at the SAU office. Discussion and activities support family engagement and improvements in the district special education initiatives. Please contact Chris Lassonde, Director of Special Services (lassondec@sau25.net). We would love to have more parents join us!
