PWS Families,
This past Wednesday night our fourth grade Chorus put on an outstanding concert for their families and friends. The chorus delighted us with songs of the season, including a fun one about fruitcake. Congratulations to the chorus and thanks to Mrs. Curran for the time she has put in to making the chorus and this performance so wonderful.
Believe it or not, the second quarter closes at the end of next week. Report cards will be available on the parent portal starting Friday, January 25 at 2:00 PM. In the meantime, the parent portal will be closed to allow teachers to enter the information for these reports. More information will be included in the next two blogs regarding how to access the report cards when they are available.
In just a few weeks, we will be having our annual PWS Family Fun Night. Information will be coming home either today or Monday regarding the night including order forms for food, tickets, and tee shirts. Please be on the lookout or you can print out forms by clicking HERE for the tee shirt order form or HERE to order tickets. Also, if you or your business are interested in being a sponsor for this event please let us know and we can arrange to get you more information about this opportunity to support this special evening.
Finally, January is a donation month in support of the Bedford Food Pantry's Weekend Backpack program. More information about specific donations can be found below.

Peter Woodbury Family Fun Night
Peter Woodbury School invites you to our annual Family Fun Night on Thursday, February 7th (with a snow day of Thursday, February 21st).  Our theme this year will be Growing Inside… Out - in honor of the 10th Anniversary of the PWS Community School Yard. Games and activities, for all ages, will be offered throughout the school for students and families to engage in and have fun.  Each classroom will donate a unique theme basket to raffle off that night. Our popular teacher raffle will be there too! The night will also include a book walk. A Book Walk is set up on the idea of musical chairs. Kids will walk around in a circle and try to be on a circle when the music stops. Pizza, salad, ice cream, and water will be served as well.
We are offering Family Fun Night T-shirts to purchase. An order form for the T-shirts was sent home today and is due by Wednesday January 16th. Order forms for raffle tickets and food were sent home today as well. To purchase meal tickets, raffle tickets, book walk tickets, or 50/50 tickets please fill out the order form and return it to school no later than Wednesday, January 30th.  All checks can be made out to Peter Woodbury School. We hope to see you at Family Fun Night, it is always a fun time for all!
If you are able, please send in used, clean lids from small containers such as sour cream, margarine, etc. They will be used for a craft activity on Family Fun Night.

COMMUNITY SPIRIT 9/11 MINI-GRANTS PROGRAM:  The Bedford PTG is the proud recipient of the Community Spirit 9/11 Mini-Grants Program  funded by Harvard Pilgrim. This $500 grant was awarded due to the generous nomination of a Bedford family.

About the Community Spirit 9/11 Mini-Grants Program:  To commemorate those Harvard Pilgrim members who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, Harvard Pilgrim and its Foundation created the Community Spirit  9/11  Mini-Grant program. This program enables employees from Harvard Pilgrim, Health Plans Inc. (our affiliate) and NTT Data (our IT partner) to award an annual grant, completely funded by the Foundation, to the local charity of his or her choice. Since the program began in 2002, these employees have directed almost $6 million to hundreds of organizations throughout our health plan service area – comprised of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Save the Date
Join us on Wednesday, March 13th at 6:30pm at McKelvie Intermediate School for a 90-minute Q&A with Dr. Dawn Huebner, nationally recognized Psychologist, Parent Coach and author of award-winning mental health books for kids. Dr. Huebner is best known for her What to Do Guides - including What to Do When You Worry Too Much and Outsmarting Worry - which have sold over 1 million copies. Rather than giving a one-size-fits-all talk, Dr. Huebner will be answering audience questions about how to recognize anxiety in kids, how to respond to it, and how to build skills to better manage it. Questions can be submitted in advance, written on a note card that evening (to maintain anonymity) or asked live. This is not a group therapy session but instead an informative Q&A that will leave you with a clearer understanding of anxiety, what parents do that inadvertently feeds it, and how to help your child get on the path to defeating it.
Check out Dr. Huebner in advance at her TEDx Talk on "Rethinking Anxiety: Learning to face fear" HERE.
