Peter Woodbury School- A Place Where People Care!
May 29, 2020
Dear Families,
Wow!  It has been a warm week!  We hope that remote learning has been working for you all this week.  It is important we all take breaks to keep cool and remind ourselves this time will pass.  It is hard to believe that school is winding down.  Maybe not for you as this has definitely been a challenging time.
I am going to make this message short because there are a lot of announcements for the end of the year.  Again, thank you for everything you have done to help us through this time.  We look forward to being able to see the students and families in the future.
Take Care,
Mrs. Daley, Principal
Mr. Mitchell, Assistant Principal

Chromebook Drop Off Instructions/Student Pick Up Materials
*Important Notes:  Art items will be returned to students during this time.
All items with the nurse will also be returned in the bag. If they cannot, Mrs. Ewing will be reaching out to individual families.

From the Library
We are looking forward to collecting library books starting June 8 when students return their Chromebooks and pick up their personal belongings.  If your student wants to see what they have checked out, please visit the library catalog.  Students must log in with their Student ID number and Chromebook password.  Once logged in, click on the "hamburger menu" (three horizontal lines in the upper left hand corner), and then choose "Checkouts."  If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Baldi at baldia@sau25.net.  Thank you!

Quarter 4 Report Cards
As a reminder… Governor Sununu recommended schools report a Pass/Fail reporting system. Bedford does not use letter grades at the elementary schools, but we will make the adjustments described below.
Based on participation in the subjects of reading and mathematics, please expect your child's fourth-quarter progress to be either "Meeting District Expectations" or "Meeting Some District Expectations.”  For those rare instances when students did not participate in remote learning, they may receive “Not Meeting District Expectations.”  This information will be provided in the comment section of the report card.  Since the entire fourth quarter instruction has been under the conditions of Remote Learning, it is more difficult to provide a four-point reporting system as we had in the first three quarters of the year. Your child will also have a comment section from the teacher providing more detail.
Integrated Arts will also provide progress on the report card (grades 3 & 4) with "Good" and "Satisfactory" in the area of participation. For those rare instances when students did not participate in remote learning, they may receive “Needs Improvement.”

Playground Access
I know that it is tempting as the weather continues to get nicer, but in staying in compliance with the Town of Bedford and given the guidance from the CDC and DHHS about stopping the transmission of the COVID-19 virus, we are asking that students DO NOT come to our playgrounds.

A Message Regarding Camp Witzel
Jane O'Brien, Recreation Manager said this is an incredible difficult decision to make, as Camp Witzel is the type of community activity that is important to the recreation department. However, in consideration of the safety of all participants (staff/campers), we are unable to properly support this summer program for the 2020 season due to the circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic and the news we received from the Bedford School District about the unavailability to use the school facility to host the program as it has in past years.  Families who have already registered and submitted payment will be given a full refund.
We thank you for being a valued member of our recreation family.  It may be hard to see it now, but there's a bright future ahead. We will get there-together.
Miss Jane

Remote Learning Plan
Understanding that we cannot replicate the same education that would have happened if there had not been a Covid-19 pandemic, we are making an adjustment to our weekly schedule.   As a school, we are constantly looking for the best ways to support all students. We believe that utilizing a model that lends itself to greater flexibility will be beneficial for our school community.  Starting next week we will dedicate Wednesday to support the personalization of learning. Please note, this is not a day off for students as they are expected to participate in their learning. Instead of receiving direct whole-class instruction, Wednesday is a day that may include targeted instructional opportunities and/or allow for more student choice and enrichment. We are hopeful that this change to the remote learning schedule will assist in giving students a little less screen time and a little more choice in their learning.  Stay safe and be healthy!
