We are a community that inspires and develops, engaged, successful learners every chance, every day.

Peter Woodbury School-A Place Where People Care!

May 14, 2021

Dear PWS Families,

We want to express how very grateful we are to the Parent/Teacher Group. This Teacher/Staff Appreciation week felt so heartwarming.  The Girl Scout cookies, flowers, cards, candy, gift cards, pillows, theme days (where students also participated), and treats everyday kept the staff looking forward to the next surprise. We know we have a devoted staff here at Peter Woodbury, thank you for showing them they are appreciated!  Please see some pictures below.

PWS has been a busy place as the end of school and summer vacation is in sight. Some of our remote learners have started to return to the school for “Transitional Tuesdays.” It has been so exciting to see them in person.

Please take a moment to read about some of the happenings around PWS and the district.

PWS News:

Move Up Day:

We will continue with the BSD on move up day.  On the last day of school, Friday, June 11th students will transition for 20 minutes to their 2021/2022  classroom.  This is a time that students get to meet their new classmates, teacher and see the classroom that they will be learning in.  All remote students will be invited for Move Up Day as well.  More information will be coming out from your child’s classroom teacher.

End of Year Dates:

Mark your calendars! We are excited to announce dates for some of our end of year celebrations:

Field Day: Friday, June 4th (More information in PTG News below)

Kindergarten Recognition Day: Friday, June 10th (Click HERE)

Fourth Grade Clap Out: Friday, June 11th @ 9:30am (More information to come soon)

Please connect with your student’s teacher if you have questions about these special events.

Special Project with Mrs. Stahl’s Class:

Mrs. Stahl’s first grade class completed a special project this week looking at the essential question of "How are things built?

As a result, students have been learning about different structures and how they are made.

The students began by creating various buildings that are needed in a town or city. The children

were placed in small groups where they planned and built a neighborhood.  There was a lot of excitement, engagement and grit here on the job site! As the class proudly looked at their finished project, a student said, "We need a name for our town!"  The students voted and chose the name "Classtown." Please click here for the final product!

Masks at Recess:

Beginning Monday, May 10th masks at recess will be OPTIONAL.

Rationale:

- State & County numbers are trending down and Bedford numbers are stable

- Recess is outdoors and allows for ample physical distancing

- All students self-screen prior to attending school and are therefore asymptomatic

- All employees who want to be vaccinated have had the opportunity to do so

- Per DHHS recommendations, we will continue to REQUIRE masks in the buildings.

- Team sports will continue to follow NHIAA protocols.

At PWS:

  • Masks will be optional at both morning and afternoon recess.

  • Masks are still mandatory on the school bus.

  • When students arrive in the morning they may keep their mask in their backpack until it is time to go inside if desired.

  • Masks are still required in the school building.

  • Mask breaks are still a part of the school day at PWS.

  • If your student needs a mask break please encourage them to ask their teacher, please discuss this with your child.
