Dear PWS Families,
We have had a very exciting week here at Peter Woodbury School. Third graders went to the Stone Zoo, and even though it was rainy everyone reported it was a great trip. Yesterday was our annual Field Day featuring fun games, activities, and of course Mr. Mitchell getting soaked. Today the first grade was all abuzz about a snake seen in the grass. Mr. Mitchell spoke to the first grade to ensure them that the snakes would not harm them and that they should just leave them alone. You can just guess where the first grade imaginations went when they heard about a snake.
PWS Happenings
A Message from Mrs. Ewing
Please remember to pick up all medications from the Health Office before the end of the school year. This includes inhalers, epi-pens, prescription medication and all over-the-counter medications. Medications cannot be stored at school over the summer or sent home with children; any medications that are not picked up will be discarded.
Last Day of School
The last day of school is Monday, June 19th. Just a reminder this is a half day for students. School ends at 12:20. Parent pick up and buses will work the same way only 2 hours earlier. We will have a move up day during the morning and all first through third grade students will meet their teacher for next school year.
4th Grade Clap Out-Last Day of School June 19th-9:00 am
This year the clap out for 4th graders will be a little different from the past. Grade 1-4 students will be in the gym singing a clap out song. The Fourth graders will walk through and exit onto the blacktop. We ask parents to line up outside behind the cones on the blacktop.. The 4th graders will parade around the coned off area and then board the buses at the front of the school. Mr. Mitchell and Mrs. Daley will be at the front to help students load the buses. This is a new tradition we hope to instill and appreciate your patience with this event!
Summer Skills
Many parents are looking for ways to keep their child's academic skills sharp over the summer. If you would like to do this, we recommend using the Summer Skills Sharpeners Book from Tri-C Publication. You should order your child's current grade level if you choose to order.

The 5th Annual Friends of Aine Kid’s Try-athlon
This event will be held on Sunday, August 13, 2017. The only event of its kind in the area, the kid’s try-athlon is designed specifically for children ages 4-15 years, in memory of Aine Phillips, who was a student at Riddle Brook School. Beginning at the Bedford town pool, participants ages 4-10 years will swim 25 yards, run 1/2 mile and bike 1 mile. Older participants ages 11-15 will swim 50 yards, run 1 mile and bike 2 miles. We are pleased to announce that this year Millennium Running will be our event partner. At the finish line, families are invited to enjoy music, jump roping, an obstacle course, water games, face painting, concessions, raffle prizes and much more! Friends of Aine is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. All proceeds from this event go toward support for grieving children. App Development Camp
This summer, students entering grades 5-9 are invited to participate in one of Vybe Software's DevKit summer camps, where campers will learn to use the DevKit mobile app to create their very own apps and games in the palms of their hands. Using an iPhone or iPad, your child will use DevKit to explore the fundamentals of coding and app development, while creating their very own app that will be published to the Apple App Store at the end of the week!
The Bedford camp session will be held at Bedford High School from August 7-10. Each day will consist of a 3 hour session beginning at 9:00AM and ending at 12:00PM. The 5:1 student-teacher ratio will ensure that every camper gets all the help they need to complete their app by the end of Day 4 on Thursday.

Girls’ Basketball Camp
The BHS girls basketball team will be hosting a series of skills clinics on Thursday evenings in July. (The first is actually June 29th.) The clinics are for any girls entering 3rd through 9th grade and no basketball experience is required. Please see the brochure, linked below, for more information.

The NH Special Education Procedural Safeguards Handbook was recently updated to reflect changes in the 3/25/17 revisions to the NH Rules for the Education of Children with Disabilities. The first annual Bedford PTG Color Blast 5k was an amazing success and we want to extend a huge thank you to all of the participants as well as the volunteers who made the event outstanding!
As we close out another school year, the Bedford PTG would like to extend our gratitude and thanks to all of our volunteers who selflessly give their time to support our events throughout the school year. It is due to our amazing volunteers that we can provide so many enriching programs to Bedford students.

Box-Tops End-of-Year Update
In our final spring collection this year, we raised nearly $700! Please do continue to clip your box tops over the summer months and bring them in next year. We all talk about ways we can teach our children to volunteer, and this is an easy way for them to participate; encourage them to talk with their extended family and friends about helping us raise money through box tops. A Note from Mrs. Ewing
At this time of year, the students may spend a little more time outdoors. It would be a good idea for parents to apply sunscreen and/or bug repellent before the students arrive each day. We are not able to reapply during the school day. Please remember to apply sun block as well.
Camp Invention

Home Runs for Heroes
Audrey Pederson, a junior and IB Diploma candidate at BHS, is doing a project that accompanies the diploma that she and her partner student have named, "Home Runs For Heroes.” They are hosting a softball clinic that is also a fundraiser for the Wounded Warrior Project. They would like to get young athletes to register for the clinic.
