September 16, 2016

Dear PWS Families,
Happy Friday!  We hope your children had a fantastic week of learning.  We had the chance to spend some time in K Plus and Kindergarten this week.  It is great to see the students’ enthusiasm for learning and willingness to make mistakes in order to grow. They are so full of life and energy!

Thank you to everyone who came out for our annual Open House!  It was so great to see all of you that attended.  We love watching as the students show the parents their school and what they are learning.  Parents and families, thank you for taking the time to come to this event and hear from the classroom teachers about what school is like on a daily basis.

PWS Happenings
4th Grade Chorus
There is still time for 4th grade students to sign up and sing with chorus! This is a great opportunity for both boys and girls to improve their vocal skills, learn new music, be able to perform as a group, and have fun!  Students will learn to sing one and two part songs in a variety of styles. Performances will be held in January and May. Please see Mrs. Curran's website for more information and to print a permission sheet for your child.

PWS Gear
If anyone is interested in buying new PWS gear such as shirts, sweatshirts, pajama pants, and lunch bags please visit  www.bedfordwear.com.  If you would prefer, we also have paper order forms available in the front office.

Lobby Display Case
This year we are utilizing our front lobby display case to reinforce our love of reading!  Each month the case will have a different selection of literature to highlight what children may enjoy.  When you are in the building, please stop by the case to see the selections.

From the Community
Ecosmith Recycle Bins for Destination Imagination
Did you know that every school in the district has an Ecosmith Recycle Bin?  This is a great way to donate/recycle old clothes, while helping raise funds for our teams who advance to Global Finals each year.  You can put any kind of fabrics in these bins, towels and stuffed animals too.  Ripped shirts and pants with holes are fine, as well as well worn shoes.  Bedford DI greatly appreciates your continued participation in this program.

Destination Imagination - Parent Info Night
Parent Info Night for Destination Imagination in all Schools will be held on Tuesday, September 27th at the McKelvie Intermediate Cafeteria.   To learn more about the program and how to provide your child with this enrichment opportunity, please come and meet our District Coordinator, Marie Russell or email Marie at bedfordrocksdi@gmail.com. For more information and to find out what Destination Imagination is all about, click here.

From the PTG
This week students brought home the Meadow Farms "Gift Wrap & More" Fundraiser packet.  All proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit the Bedford PTG, which funds many special programs at PWS. Orders are due by October 3rd.  Thank you for your support!
