October 7, 2016

Dear PWS Families,

Many wonderful things were happening throughout the school this week at every grade level, but it was a very memorable week for third and fourth grade. Tom Watson, author of the Stick Dog book series, came to visit with both of those grade levels. If you have a third or fourth grader, you should ask them to draw you a stick dog, they are all masters now. This week also had some of our fourth graders visiting the Little Brick Schoolhouse and the third graders getting a special presentation about bats.

Enjoy a well earned and deserved long weekend this weekend. The weather looks like it will be nice, so please get out and enjoy.

PWS Happenings
Tom Watson Visit
Our third and fourth grade students had a special treat this week!  Author Tom Watson shared his craft with students during two presentations.  His humorous and drawing style were a hit with all of the students as he gave step by step directions.  It was beautiful to see the students and teachers so intent and joyful as they met and drew each character.  Some were inspired to write their own Stick Dog stories. Students even offered Mr. Watson feedback and suggestions on what his next two books should be.  Stay tuned..the next one comes out in April!  A special thanks to Gibson’s Book Store in Concord for making this opportunity possible.

Stick Dog says “Stick with reading”.

Peter Woodbury School Strings Club
Although String Club started yesterday, we are extending the registration to October 13th.  We are a beginner’s group and will be learning the basics of how to play the violin and read music. The club will run from 2:40 until 3:30 every Thursday when the students are released for parent pick-up or go to the after school program. The club will be run by Mrs. Julia Anderson, an experienced local violin teacher. We are going to ask students to commit to coming through December. I am so excited to begin this musical adventure with your students!  Parents, for your student to attend you will need to provide an instrument, Essential Elements for Strings Violin Book 1, shoulder rest (a foam one is fine), and music stand. We highly suggest renting an instrument, Music and Arts in Manchester has a promotion running currently which gives 3 months for the price of one, they also carry the book and other items.  If you get there and can’t remember what you need, simply ask the clerk as they have been informed of our list.  If you are interested, please click on the link below for more information and a permission slip to enroll your child.
