October 28, 2016

Dear PWS Families,

Last night was our Annual 2nd Grade Scarecrow Jubilee. Thank you to all the families that came out to celebrate the students’ hard work and enjoy a little Apple Crisp. The event raised approximately $850 that will be donated to Families in Transition. Thank you to our 2nd grade teachers and team for once again putting on a fantastic event.

Starting this coming week, you will be able to experience our Wall of Heroes. Mrs. Beltramo has worked very hard to put together this display to honor our veterans. Please take a moment to come and visit the hallway by the gym and honor their service and sacrifice.

Thank you to everyone who supported the Gifts, Wrap, and More Fundraiser! We are happy to announce that PWS students sold over $11,000 of Meadow Farms products. The proceeds benefit the PTG, which funds many special programs in our schools. A special thank you goes out to our top three sellers. Congratulations girls! We hope they enjoy spending their Target gifts cards.

Mrs. Cassamassino has updated her website. Please take a moment to find out all of the new and exciting information related to technology at PWS.

Finally, we are very excited about our Annual Halloween Parade. This is a very special event at Peter Woodbury. This year, the event is planned to kick off on Monday at 1:30 (Morning Kindergarteners will have their own parade at 10:15). Students are encouraged to bring their costumes to school. They will have an opportunity to change into them before the parade starts. We ask that if the costume involves any pieces that could be considered a weapon or weapon like that they please leave those pieces at home. We look forward to the many wonderful costumes that we are sure to see this Monday.

PWS Happenings

PWS School Store

We are excited to announce that once again the 4th grade Student Council will operate a school store. The store will be open to students in grades 2-4 every Wednesday from 7:30 am - 8:00 am (morning bus drop off). It will be located in the gym. During outdoor drop off days the store will be accessible from the playground gym doors. Students will form a line outside to enter the gymnasium. During indoor recess days the store will be accessible from the gym hallway. Students will request a school store pass from the duty teacher after they have sat with their class and they can come down to the gym to shop.
The store will carry a variety of items including pencils, pens, small notebooks, bookmarks, grips, friendship bracelets, and other similar items. Some items will be in our school colors or have our school name. Items in the store will range from $.25-$3.00. Students should not come to the store with any bills larger than $5.00 in order to facilitate making change. Items will vary throughout the school year.
Funds raised through the store stay right here at our school. In the past, student council has donated money to the library for new books, purchased new playground equipment, helped buy a light box for the art room, purchased plants for our schoolyard and provided money for several school service projects.
If you have any questions about the school store please do not hesitate to ask. We can be reached by phone, 622-0431 or through the e-mails listed below.

Make Life Sweeter Candy Drive
Beginning the Tuesday after Halloween (November 1), until the end of the school day on Monday (November 7), with the help of a BHS student, we will be conducting a week long post-Halloween candy drive. All of the collections will be donated to the New Horizons Soup Kitchen in Manchester.  New Horizons gratefully uses these donations as dessert when they serve the homeless, and they also pass it along as a nighttime treat to those homeless guests staying in the shelter.  The goal of the drive is to make life a little sweeter for those less fortunate.  All donations can be placed in the marked box outside the office, which will be collected at the end of the school day on Monday, November 7th.

The Drowsy Chaperone is a musical with book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar (Second City Alum) and music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison. It is a parody of American musical comedy of the 1920s. The story concerns a middle-aged, asocial musical theatre fan; as he plays the record of his favorite musical, the (fictional) 1928 hit The Drowsy Chaperone, the show comes to life onstage as he wryly comments on the music, story, and actors.
