PWS PrinciPal’s News
PWS Families,
We are excited for tonight’s Father Daughter Dance and we know the girls in the school are
even more excited. It was fun to listen to all of their conversations about their plans and
preparations. We know that it will be a great event as usual.
Thank you again for all of your support of last week’s Book Fair. The final numbers are in
and we sold over $12,000. Thank you for your support of the PTG as well as the many book
donations that were purchased as part of the Teachers’ Wish lists.
Below you will find links to two letters. The first is in regards to placement for the 2018-2019
school year. As we begin the process of creating our classes for next year we welcome any
input about your child that you would like us to consider. Please follow the instructions in the
letter to give us that information. The second letter pertains to the upcoming Tripod Surveys
that will be administered the week we return from vacation. Your attention to these letters is
greatly appreciated.

Have a great weekend,
Cheryl Daley (Principal)
Dan Mitchell (Assistant Principal)

Bedford DI Rocked at the Destination Imagination State Tournament
Bedford DI took home 9 of the top spots at the State Destination Imagination tournament at
Bedford High School on April 7th.  Teams had already presented at regional tournaments in
Hampton, Swanzey and Goffstown to qualify for States. Teams presented solutions to
challenges in many areas of STEM, as well as arts and community services projects.  Two
teams from Peter Woodbury School advanced in the elementary category, Team Emoji  and
The Pioneers of Treasure. Teams are now organizing many fundraisers to help offset the cost
of getting to the Global Finals in Knoxville, TN next month and appreciate your support.  We
are so proud of our Teams.
DI of the Storm from Bedford High School, took 1st place in the Project Outreach challenge,
Inside Impact. This group of freshman were successful in getting the yes vote for the warrant
article on the ballot, to replace the styrofoam trays
with compostable trays in the Bedford school cafeterias. They were also given the
Torchbearer's Award.
"This award is given for Project Outreach projects that have had an extraordinary impact in
and beyond their local community."

Lost and Found
The lost & found area is getting full so please take a look for any lost items while you are
in for parent teacher conferences.  The lost & found bins will be emptied prior to the April
break and all items will be donated.

can donate all your old shoes, bags and belts (any condition) in the marked boxes in our school
lobby.  These items must be placed in a special blue bag. This is a great way to get your spring
cleaning under way, while helping raise funds for the teams heading to Global Finals in
Knoxville, TN.  Reminder, clothing, fabrics, stuffed animals etc can always be donated in the
bin in the parking lot. We appreciate your support. For more info,

From the Superintendent
2018-19 School Calendar
The School Board has approved the 2018-19 School Calendar. Please note that there is a
substantial change for 2018-19. The district will shift from tracking days to tracking hours. As
a result, the last day of school for 2018-19 will be no later than June 13 and could be as early
as June 6. The first five snow days, if needed, will be made up by students at the end of the
year. Any snow days beyond five days will not need to be made up by students. This should
bring some more predictability to the end of the year for families.

From the PTG
Staff Appreciation will be held at PWS during the week of May 7-11, 2018.  The PTG has a
few things planned to make this week extra special for our staff, which will include a selection
of raffle items.  If you, or your business, is interested in donating a raffle item, please contact
Kelly O'Donnell (kellydurrigan@comcast.net).  Thank you!

Opportunities Reaching Kids (ORK) / Artist In Residence (AIR) - Ever wonder how the
PTG spends the money it raises throughout the year?  One way is through enrichment
programming with our ORK and AIR programs. Some upcoming events at PWS include Eyes
on Owls, John Farrell music, Wildlife Encounters and the STEAM Museum.

Repeated News & Messages
School Start Time
Hopefully winter is behind us and we can get back to a consistent schedule without
unexpected snow days and delays. As we move towards more normalcy we want to remind
you that the school start time is 8:00 AM. Students must be in their class at 8:00 AM or they
will be marked as tardy.
The number of tardy students has started to increase so we want to take this opportunity to
remind everyone of the importance of students starting on time. The climate of the classroom
is set at the beginning of the day and it is important for all students to experience the morning
meetings and other routines teachers have in place to transition from home to school. Thank
you for your assistance with this.

Safety Updates
Thank you to all the parents that follow the morning safety procedures by parking their cars
and walking their students into the school. In saying that, several parents have expressed
concerns about morning traffic in the front of the school.  Please remember that all students
should be dropped off at the back of the building between 7:30 am and 7:50 am. If you arrive
after this time, and the flag is up, then pull to the front of the building, park your car, and walk
your child(ren) in.  It is not safe for students to be dropped off in the parking lot, or the lanes
with coming and going traffic. We really appreciate your assistance with this.
Students sometimes forget their lunch, snow gear, sneakers, etc. Since you are such great
parents you sometimes come and drop off your child's items.  We will now have our
receptionist, Mrs. Assetta, take the items and make sure they get to your child. Instructional
time is very precious and we want to protect this.  Thanks again for all your support.
