April 12, 2019

Dear PWS Families,
This week's book fair was a huge success. We always love when children get excited about books and reading. Thank you all for coming and supporting this worthwhile fundraiser. A special thank you to Kerri Sullivan, Boom Belair, Cara Galli, and the many parents who gave their time to this event. The dinosaurs certainly made for an extra level of enjoyment.
Believe it or not, it is already time to start thinking about next year. Earlier today you received an email regarding placement for next year. If you have input that you think should be considered as we place students, please use the form linked below, or from your email and send it in to the main office.
Yesterday you received an email regarding the upcoming Tripod Survey. This survey is a very important gage of our students' thoughts and perceptions and is beneficial to us. This survey does require parent permission. Please click the link below, or from yesterday's email, to grant us this permission.
We have some exciting news coming from our garden and school yard. Please read below for more information about some upcoming events and ways you can help. In the meantime, please enjoy this News 180 Special Report:

Finally, our Lost and Found will get cleaned out and donated over vacation. Next week is your last chance to reclaim anything that is yours before it head's off to someone in need.

Have a Great Weekend,
Cheryl Daley, Principal
Dan Mitchell, Assistant Principal

News from the Garden
This is an exciting spring as we prepare for the 10th anniversary of the PWS Community School Yard. A decade ago, it was a barren bark mulch oasis.  Through community support, donations, grants, and PWS family participation, we developed a one of a kind Community School Yard without district funding.
GARDEN CLUB is beginning May 3 for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders. Please CLICK HERE for the first come-first served registration form.
We have a new plan for the Daly Garden, named in memory of a former teacher, Cindy Daly. We will be building new beds, a small orchard, creating a class gathering space and having portable planters.  The active play area will be getting some additional pieces of new equipment. Our fourth grade students will be creating a labyrinth as their legacy.
It is up to our school community to preserve this wonderful treasure.
If you would like to help with our SPRING SPRUCE UP of our school yard, please mark May 5 on your calendar and SIGN UP HERE.  We’ll begin at 9 am building beds and doing other raking and planting projects.
We will soon be sharing information about our School Yard Anniversary Celebration.
Destination Imagination - Shoe Drive
Bedford DI are having a special shoe drive through Ecosmith Recyclers.  From now until May 19th, you can donate all your old paired shoes, boots, flip flops, sneakers, heels and slippers in the marked boxes in your school lobby.  These items will then be placed in a special blue bag before being deposited in the Ecosmith bin in the school parking lots. This is a great way to get your spring cleaning under way, while helping raise funds for the teams heading to Global Finals in Kansas City, MO.  We would also like to remind you that, clothing, fabrics, stuffed animals etc can always be donated year round in the Ecosmith bin. We appreciate your support.
Chipotle Fundraiser - Tuesday April 16th
Please join us for dinner this Tuesday at Chipotle in Bedford where they will donate a percentage of the profits to our DI teams. Stop in 5-9PM and tell them you are supporting Bedford DI!
4th to 5th Grade Band Information Night
The McKelvie Music Department will be touring the elementary schools on Monday, May 13th. There will be a Band Information Night on Tuesday, May 14th at 6:00pm in the McKelvie Cafeteria. There will be information for parents regarding sign-ups and instrument rentals, and instruments for students to view and hold. Please email Christa Wickham at wickhamc@sau25.net with any questions.

BEEP is accepting registrations for the 2019-2020 School Year.  We have space available in many of our 3 and 4 year old classrooms.  Please contact Meghan Fredette , BEEP Program Coordinator at (603) 627-1776 x-23216 or fredettem@bedfordnhk12.net
BEEP  is a regular early childhood program  providing the opportunity for typically developing three and four year old children and children identified as having special needs to learn and play together.  We believe active participation and concrete learning experiences make learning more meaningful for the children and best serve their development and learning. All the children are provided a multi-sensory learning environment in which they utilize all senses in learning new concepts.  Language development and social skills are emphasized throughout the integrated curriculum. Implementation of specialized intervention within natural situations occurs without disrupting the curriculum and educational routines of the classroom.
Staff:
Classrooms are staffed by certified educators with a background in early childhood and special education.  In addition, our staff includes a licensed speech and language pathologist, a speech assistant, licensed occupational therapist, occupational therapy assistant, licensed physical therapist, classroom assistants and a program coordinator.  Educational consultants are available as needed. Throughout a BEEP day, each classroom has a teacher and assistant at all times, and other therapists and paraprofessionals may join the classroom periodically.
Programs:
·Classroom programs for 3 and 4 year olds are provided two, three, four, or five days a week for 2 ½ hours a day.
·The Intensive Needs program offers the opportunity for an individualized self-contained, or partially self-contained program..
·For more specifics, contact the BEEP Program Coordinator.
