PWS PrinciPal’s News
We are a community that inspires and develops, engaged, successful learners every chance, every day.
April 19, 2019

Dear PWS Families,
We started today with a little extra recess. The students voted for this back in March, and it could not have been a more perfect morning for it. It was a great way to start the day before vacation.
This week has been filled with fun, learning, energy, and creativity. Yesterday alone we saw fabulous fourth grade jump ropers, a wonderful Art show, and a third grade classroom transformed into a zoo.

Have a Great Vacation,

News from PWS
News from the Garden
This is an exciting spring as we prepare for the 10th anniversary of the PWS Community School Yard. A decade ago, it was a barren bark mulch oasis.  Through community support, donations, grants, and PWS family participation, we developed a one of a kind Community School Yard without district funding.
GARDEN CLUB is beginning May 3 for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders. Please CLICK HERE for the first come-first served registration form.
We have a new plan for the Daly Garden, named in memory of a former teacher, Cindy Daly. We will be building new beds, a small orchard, creating a class gathering space and having portable planters.  The active play area will be getting some additional pieces of new equipment. Our fourth grade students will be creating a labyrinth as their legacy.
It is up to our school community to preserve this wonderful treasure.
If you would like to help with our SPRING SPRUCE UP of our school yard, please mark May 5 on your calendar and SIGN UP HERE.  We’ll begin at 9 am building beds and doing other raking and planting projects.
We will soon be sharing information about our School Yard Anniversary Celebration.
Destination Imagination - Shoe Drive
Bedford DI are having a special shoe drive through Ecosmith Recyclers.  From now until May 19th, you can donate all your old paired shoes, boots, flip flops, sneakers, heels and slippers in the marked boxes in your school lobby.  These items will then be placed in a special blue bag before being deposited in the Ecosmith bin in the school parking lots. This is a great way to get your spring cleaning under way, while helping raise funds for the teams heading to Global Finals in Kansas City, MO.  We would also like to remind you that, clothing, fabrics, stuffed animals etc can always be donated year round in the Ecosmith bin. We appreciate your support.
4th to 5th Grade Band Information Night
The McKelvie Music Department will be touring the elementary schools on Monday, May 13th. There will be a Band Information Night on Tuesday, May 14th at 6:00pm in the McKelvie Cafeteria. There will be information for parents regarding sign-ups and instrument rentals, and instruments for students to view and hold. Please email Christa Wickham at wickhamc@sau25.net with any questions.
From the PTG
Parent Feedback Needed for Pathways to Graduation discussion
Bob Jozokos, Associate Principal at BHS, and Tom Laliberte, Assistant Superintendent, are looking for feedback about BHS from parents at all Bedford schools. This feedback will help them answer a new School Board goal. The goal reads, "The Bedford School District will review and make recommended adjustments to graduation pathways for students with divergent learning progressions. These pathways will provide guidances on possible adjustments to the BHS schedule and its impact on staffing."
The combined feedback sessions for all three elementary schools will be held at Memorial Elementary School. Please see signup link below if interested!
