Dear PWS Families,
Today was our annual Grandparent's Day and what a wonderful day it was! We welcomed over 510 grandparent visitors! It always amazes us how many people show up to celebrate our students and spend a day with us. The energy of the day will surely get us through to the end of the year. Special thanks to Jenny Caouette, Sam Farrow, the many parent volunteers, kitchen staff, and everyone else who made this day so special. Our favorite moment of the day may have been when we overheard a kindergartner proudly tell his grandfather that he slept the whole night in his own bed last night. Turns out his parents very wisely used grandparents day as a bribe to get him back in his bed- Well played!

This Sunday is our annual school yard clean up day beginning at 9:00 AM. We will be working hard to rebuild our gardens, lay down mulch, and beautify our school yard. The more hands we have the less work for all. Please consider coming out for a bit and doing your part to make PWS beautiful both inside and out.

Have a Great Weekend,
Cheryl Daley, Principal
Dan Mitchell, Assistant Principal

51 challenges of choosing water over sugar drinks
78 daily challenges of doing a good deed/being kind
We are so grateful for your partnership in building a stronger and healthier community!
We would also like to express our most sincere apologies for the delay in receiving our thank you gifts. Due to an unexpected supply issue our shipments have been delayed. We expect all remaining gifts to be shipped out by the beginning of next week.  Should you have any concerns please feel free to call my cell listed below.

News from the Garden
This is an exciting spring as we prepare for the 10th anniversary of the PWS Community School Yard. A decade ago, it was a barren bark mulch oasis.  Through community support, donations, grants, and PWS family participation, we developed a one of a kind Community School Yard without district funding.
GARDEN CLUB is beginning May 3 for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders. Please CLICK HERE for the first come-first served registration form.
We have a new plan for the Daly Garden, named in memory of a former teacher, Cindy Daly. We will be building new beds, a small orchard, creating a class gathering space and having portable planters.  The active play area will be getting some additional pieces of new equipment. Our fourth grade students will be creating a labyrinth as their legacy.
It is up to our school community to preserve this wonderful treasure.
If you would like to help with our SPRING SPRUCE UP of our school yard, please mark May 5 on your calendar and SIGN UP HERE.  We’ll begin at 9 am building beds and doing other raking and planting projects.
We will soon be sharing information about our School Yard Anniversary Celebration.
From the PTG
Parent Feedback Needed for Pathways to Graduation discussion
Bob Jozokos, Associate Principal at BHS, and Tom Laliberte, Assistant Superintendent, are looking for feedback about BHS from parents at all Bedford schools. This feedback will help them answer a new School Board goal. The goal reads, "The Bedford School District will review and make recommended adjustments to graduation pathways for students with divergent learning progressions. These pathways will provide guidances on possible adjustments to the BHS schedule and its impact on staffing."
The combined feedback sessions for all three elementary schools will be held at Memorial Elementary School on Monday, May 6th at 6 PM. Please see signup link below if interested!
PWS Program & Event Coordinators Needed
The PTG needs you!!  Several of the programs and events offered at PWS will need new coordinators, co-coordinators and/or shadows for the 2019-2020 school year.
Programs include: Volunteer Co-Coordinator, Hospitality Co-Coordinator (coffee carts, luncheons, etc), and Book Fair Co-Coordinator/Shadow.  If any of these positions are of interest or if you have questions regarding any of the roles, please contact Kelly O'Donnell at kellydurrigan@comcast.net.
Staff Appreciation Week
Staff Appreciation Week will be held at PWS during the week of May 6-10.  Please be on the lookout for information from your room parents on how you can help make the week extra special for your student's teacher(s).  The PTG will also be treating our staff in various ways throughout the week including a raffle at the end of the week. We are looking for donations of any kind (gift cards, classroom supplies, etc) to include in the raffle.  Please contact Kelly O'Donnell at kellydurrigan@comcast.net if you or your business would like to contribute.  Thank you!
New Water Fountain/Bottle Filler
Thank you to the Bedford PTG for its donation of a new water fountain/bottle filling station that was installed at PWS over the April break.

Destination Imagination - Shoe Drive
Bedford DI are having a special shoe drive through Ecosmith Recyclers.  From now until May 19th, you can donate all your old paired shoes, boots, flip flops, sneakers, heels and slippers in the marked boxes in your school lobby.  These items will then be placed in a special blue bag before being deposited in the Ecosmith bin in the school parking lots. This is a great way to get your spring cleaning under way, while helping raise funds for the teams heading to Global Finals in Kansas City, MO.  We would also like to remind you that, clothing, fabrics, stuffed animals etc can always be donated year round in the Ecosmith bin. We appreciate your support.
